Yesterday, after 6 years of behind-the-scenes work, BTTF Director John Adams and Chairman Walt Freeman presided over one of the first physical actions regarding the #BronzevilleTrail, taking soil samples before excavation and reshaping. Goal is to develop the abandoned #Kenwood “L” line embankment to an elevated hiking and biking trail, emulating the Bloomingdale Trail on Chicago’s north side. The Trail will start at 40th & Dearborn and end 2 miles later at 41st and Lake Park Ave., connecting to the lakefront biking/walking path. The Bronzeville Trail will encourage a healthy lifestyle and provide access to the lakefront path without traffic interference. We estimate that the Trail will cost approximately $100 million dollars. We've raised $10M so far, half of that going into streetscape work right now. More info, and to donate: bronzevilletrail.org

In 2023, Chris won the Richard H. Driehaus/Landmark Illinois Public Art award for his Bronzeville Legends Initiative, which showcased the area's notable past residents in large murals. This Richard Hunt mural is an extension of that initiative, but better because instead of only being able to use images of Legends that were no longer with us, Chris was able to meet, hang out with and photograph Richard Hunt in his studio while he was still alive.
