So Dactylorhiza sambucina , Elder flowered orchid comes in basically two coloured variations , yellow and purple , this is nice because it’s got both coloured variations going on , Apennines Italy 🇮🇹

26/5/25 #Cumbria - The Sword Leaved Helleborine (Cephalanthera longifolia) is a fabulous #orchid but sadly a rather rare one that's heavily threatened in the British Isles. Hotter than today's weather, these magnificent plants were an absolute joy to behold #wildflowerhour

26/5/26 #Cumbria - The season is much further behind at this stunning pasture on the Scottish border, with pristine Early Purple #Orchids (Orchis mascula) and a handful of Butterwort (Pinguicula vulgaris) coming into flower. It’ll be a carpet of Dactylorhizas soon #wildflowerhour

It’s been a good year for Sword-leaved helleborine in my locality with over 30 spikes in the 2 areas of the wood. They are now starting to go over, and here’s hoping next year will be as good. #orchids
