I once had a manager ask me without a sense of irony why I cared about the effectiveness of sales This is something technical people need to understand: Your product can be pure engineering perfection, it does not matter if no one will buy it.

It’s come to my attention that many people think continuous delivery/deployment is about taking whatever crap you have in version control & shipping it into prod as fast as possible so you can test in prod NO CD is about making it SAFE to ship your code into prod quickly by:

@bryanl It's not just an industry, it's 98% of the populace. I've held as a rule for a long while now that I strike things where I only read a headline from my thought processes, those things are meant to grab your attention which can be toxic over time.

We have a whole industry of people who learn only from reading headlines. Want to be educated more than most? Read the actual articles.

@bryanl There's things I used everyday for years I'd need to lookup now because I don't use them constantly anymore. Good on people who remember everything, but that's not a lot of us. You should probably know your day to day commands, but I think most do.

I don’t memorize how to flush dns, most of the git sub commands, all these letter industry acronyms, and a rack of other things because looking it up is easier. Memory doesn’t solve problems. Context does.

It's easy for a company to "care" about mental health by getting the overall number into a good place while ignoring customer facing people taking the brunt of everything.

@cloudbart DIY culture meshes well with a techie mind... except for the whole part where you can't just get something correct once then loop over it

Can we all just agree Flash going away is the high point of 2020 and would still be the high point even if it wasn't such a god awful year?

@cloudbart @phoebegoh @awertkin @BlueCatNetworks its the inherent contradiction we all hold. We want stability in uptime, security, and end user satisfaction, and we want to rapidly change. I've said for years the art of software engineering is not coding, it's the process delivering features quickly with minimal disruption

@techstringy @BlueCatNetworks As to why, silos and politics existed long before tech, and to the shock of no one adding tech to the mix only made it that much more fun.

@awertkin @phoebegoh @BlueCatNetworks Technical innovation can push the business forward, but that's usually after we have satisfied the basic needs of doing business. Get your fundamentals right before you start getting too creative. #CCoCI #NetworkVIP
