@SandyofSuffolk There were huge numbers of coal miners who had amazing work ethics back in Thatcher's Britain (which you probably remember). Didn't help them much. How did you afford your first house Sandy? Did you buy before you met your husband?
English

My daughter owns her own house in West Sussex.
My two stepdaughters own their own houses in Cornwall.
My eldest grandson is buying his own house, on his own, in Lancashire.
My eldest granddaughter is buying her own flat, on her own, in East Sussex.
Because they have a work ethic and aren't spendthrifts.
English

@GlenSmith174927 @SandyofSuffolk Or how she managed to save at least £43K for a deposit on that salary?
English

@SandyofSuffolk Tell us how your SINGLE living daughter living by herself on an avg salary which by definition is what the average person is on , qualifies for a mortgage on an avg house with an average price in West Sussex which is 436k ?

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! 😡😡😡😡😡
Islam Migrants are killing British Citizens every day.
Aged between 16 - 65?
Fit & able?
Want to protect your communities, children, females & vulnerable?
In every village, town & city outside every school, play parks and social centres?

Watch, safeguard, assist, report, protect & defend?
Our Government are not protecting us.
Allowing massive threats to continue nationwide.
We can't depend on police today.
Evidently.
WE MUST FORM A HOME GUARD.
The threat is very real.

@UK_Compounder @2147mill UK private healthcare is only so cheap because of the NHS infrastructure. If we did what you suggest, the increase in price would be far far more than the tax you'd save.
English

@2147mill Disagree. The NHS needs an entire overhaul, but has the potential to be a fantastic service for the country.
However, I do think anyone that pays private should be able to opt out of paying for the NHS. Same with private school, etc. Why should you pay for services twice?..
English

@jude22118 Well that's about 99.999% of the population dealt with.
English

This is my opinion am I wrong 🤷🏻♀️
Anyone still voting Labour, Conservative or Green is just completely soulless at this point. They've sold out, swallowed the bullshit, and don't even realise how fucked up things are.🤬
Anyone voting Reform is still half-asleep. They've woken up a bit, clocked that something's badly wrong with immigration, the woke crap and the endless lies... but they're not fully there yet. Still trusting the system a little too much.🤷🏻♀️
But anyone who votes Restore... yeah, they've actually woken up proper. Eyes wide open, seeing the full picture, and ready for real change.💪🏻🫶

@Robbie_Reasons Ours - in Southend - was frequently broken into. Not that it ever had much ££ in it. And in those days, "Spastic" was a descriptive medical term, as were "Cretin" or "Retarded". It became offensive when people started using it as an insult.
English

@SandyofSuffolk Is that what you did Sandy? How long did it take you to save for your first house?
English

You can buy a nice little house like this in Suffolk with a 5% deposit of £6,000. Nationwide, Barclays and others are offering good deals for first time buyers with only a 5% deposit.
But then you'd have to forego your gap year in the Far East and Antipodes or your fancy wedding. Poor you. Boo hoo. 🤣

@VictorianDad2 @bo66ie29 Our local Victorian station was designed for Victorian people. It was full of bottlenecks, dreadful if you were in a wheelchair or pushing a bike. Now its bright, light, airy, easy to navigate, shops, cafes, etc. Yes it does look bland, but its great if you’re using it every day.
English

@chrisotherwise @bo66ie29 Given that £££s were already spent on the original station.
And it was being used for decades.
By your logic, the extra money that has been spent on making it look bland is money wasted.
English

@KarenOB24451798 @theworstkirst @MediaSOI I grew up then, living in a mid-size town. We weren't wealthy and couldn't afford most of the lovely things in those twee shops. The town centre was dirty, stank of exhaust fumes, and there was plenty of crime. Some things were indeed better then, but I'd far rather live today.
English

@theworstkirst @MediaSOI @chrisotherwise Not at all. This was Britain and why so many of us clamour for these days. Sadly those growing up today, will never know how good this was. No turkish barbers, vape shops, tattoo parlours and endless charity shops.
English

@AvonandsomerRob @thaisilver60 This is forward thinking. Power stations are much better suited to control their emissions than millions of cars. And eventually most will be renewables or (hopefully one day) nuclear fusion.
English

@thaisilver60 This is indeed the sticking point. You could argue that going electric just shifts the carbon footprint back to the power stations.
But the numbers make a lot of sense for company car owners. Private buyers are still nervous.
English

The argument against electric vehicles has always been around range.
Your average petrol car has a range of 400 miles.
This Mercedes CLA AMG 250 EV can crack 500 miles on a 30 minute charge.
It will also cost you less than £40 monthly in company car tax, compared to £500 or more for the fossil fuel versions.
Company Car fleets have ditched petrol/diesel.
When will private motorists follow suit?

English

@giveashitnature Looks lovely but you end up with 6 foot high grass and nettles that obscure junctions and lead to accidents.
English

Rotherham, England replaced 8 miles of mowed grass with wildflowers.
They saved £25,000 in mowing costs a year and bees, butterflies, and birds showed up almost immediately.
You don’t need to wait for your city to act. Start small in your own patch:
🏡 Let your front verge or sidewalk strip go wild this spring
🌻 Toss a few native wildflower seed balls into neglected spots
🌱 Stop mowing one strip and see what shows up
📧 Contact your city government. One email from one person has started initiatives like this before
One person. One small patch. Real habitat.
Your street could be next.
