Good to see the players having a night out a couple of days before a massive game. Could they not do it at the weekend or, say, in 2 weeks?

@JamesCleverly But it was 1.9% before her budget. doubling overnight is a seismic shock, was still 4.2% when Labour got power.

Being “stressed out” by your kids’ exams is the ultimate example of modern parenting, and it’s pretty pathetic, we are not the ones taking the exams and we are adults. It’s self indulgent and unhelpful @BBCr4today

with all the Andy Burnham speculation people should understand the mechanics of calling a by election. 1. First an MP has to stand down ( taken the Chiltern Hundreds for example). The Chancellor has to action this - she might not? 2. By Convention the writ for the by-election is then moved by the Chief Whip of the Party that holds the seat but that can be overturned by any MP if they think the Party is dragging it’s heals. The writ can also be opposed - if Starmer doesn’t want Burnham then he could take his time..:weeks potentially. 3. The minimum period for a by election contest is between 21 and 27 days. So the best case for Andy Burnham is 3 weeks on Thursday but if the process is opposed by his rivals it could be 6 weeks or even months….

The UK is about to have its 6th prime minister in 7 years because after 47 years of Thatcherism, nothing works any more. We're going to be stuck in an endless cycle of prime ministerial resignations until the failed neoliberal model is overturned.

If you have signed a petition to have the manager of the club you claim to support sacked, you have absolutely no idea what it means to support Liverpool football club. You are an embarrassment.

@OllieHolt22 Another journalist who's missing the point. Most likely because you are sick and tired of writing about how inconsistent referees are you would rather write about how fans are wrong to expect constinancy. Its classic gas lighting.

Forget VAR. The truth is there are simply an awful lot of people out there who cannot handle the idea that Arsenal might just win this thing. dailymail.com/sport/football…

@MarkOgden_ @Tyfisher117 Its a different argument; it's the argument everyone is having except the journalists who are writing about it being the right call rather than writing about how much of a u turn the decision was in comparison to how they have officiated all season.

@Tyfisher117 That's a different argument. Consistency is another debate. The decision yesterday was the right one, so you can't then discount it because others have been wrong

Football wanted VAR and now everyone complains when it gets a big decision right. You can’t have it both ways — and that applies to Mikel Arteta as much as anyone espn.com/soccer/story/_…

@JNorthcroft We all thought they were fouls; until this season when ther PGMOL decided they no longer were. Until that is the 3rd game from the end of the season. Not many people arguing it shouldn't be a foul; most arguing the lack of consistency.

Agree a VAR call on some corner kick grappling is a lame - yet sadly fitting - way to (potentially) decide the 25/26 season. I dislike VAR and set-piece football tires me. But worse would have been if the call had gone the other way. Because, bottom line - it was a foul.

@tomrenniesoccer look, what you're saying is you don't like the way the game is reffed and feel goalies get away with too much. I agree with that as a personal choice. but it's a separate agument, one that doesn't change what the rules are now. and this guy has applied them correctly

Felt soft at the time. Looking back he grabbed his arm. So it’s just a foul and that’s that. No idea why shay given kept calling it “controversial“ on match of the day, other than being a bad tv analyst theguardian.com/football/2026/…

It was a foul on David Raya. VAR made the correct decision. VAR is a terrible way to decide a game of this magnitude for both teams. All these things can be true at the same time.

@OllieHolt22 @DiscoMirror A mess of pgmol own making. They've been lax all season enforcing fouls in the penalty area and they decided to be strict at the most crucial point

@DaleJohnsonBBC I dont believe the point is it shouldn't be a foul, the problem is they've allowed such behaviour all season and set precedence. This is why pgmol gets such a bed rep. Its the lack of consistency. Its ironic its arsenal that has benefited when they decide to tighten the rules

Imagine being Darren England at that moment. The pressure to get the decision right as the VAR must have been immense. Monumental decision at both ends of the table - and the right one.

What’s happening in Labour Party: 1. Keir desperately trying to cling on. 2.Many MPs in shock & realising no chance in election if he stays. 3.Need for stability & so calls for real discussion & as smooth a transfer to new leader as possible. 4.Factions also considering coup 1/2

@davidlynchlfc The biggest problem the board will have if they stick with him into next season is it won't take much of a bad run at the beginning of the season for his position to become totally untenable; and any potential high class replacement will already be position. What then?

Liverpool may be desperate to stick with Arne Slot, but that stance won't withstand the Anfield crowd turning against him. Today felt like that - these fans are just sick of watching a passive, toothless brand of football they have seen for over a year now.
