The Trump image has a clear citation that is different from what you posted: docs.iza.org/dp17569.pdf The citation you provide is mind-bendingly dumb in terms of methodology. It doesn't look at the contributions of immigrant groups directly. Instead, it buckets immigrants from different countries into different groups based on the likelihood that they meet certain criteria like having a bachelor's degree. Then it looks at the net total tax revenues reported by the government for each of those groups. Basically it goes, "The average person aged 25-35 with a Bachelor's degree in the US pays $13k in taxes each year. 50% of Indian immigrants in that age range have Bachelor's degrees so let's assume they're all contributing $13k a year."

Three nationalities left out of the list. Possibly coz their high contribution along with the color of their skin doesn’t align with the narrative. Indian : $1.7 million Chinese : $800K Filipino : $600K

I'm going to give you a computer science problem, covered by a software patent (US 4,197,590). Let's see if it's "obvious" to experts in the field. You're on a monochrome display. You want to draw a PLUS sign cursor, like in a paint program, leaving the pixel in the middle unchanged. How do you draw the vertical and horizontal lines without stomping on the center pixel? Do you save the center and put it back later? Or what's your solution? No sprites, of course, all done via Get/SetPixel(x,y) only. Assume something like bool GetPixel(uint x, uint y); void SetPixel(uint x, uint y, bool b);

@SketchesbyBoze 11/19, though I feel like there are a few I should know, but I'm not confident if you really pressed me for a definition. Like could I figure out abnegation or timorous from context clues? Probably. But asking me to use it in a sentence I'm less confident.

NEW: Judge apologizes in court to WHCA Dinner shooting suspect Cole Allen. Magistrate Judge Zia Faruqui said that he was “fascinated and disturbed” by Allen's treatment in jail. Allen was placed on suicide watch when he was first imprisoned. Prosecutors argued that since Allen told investigators he did not expect to survive the alleged attack, he could be a danger to himself. But an incredulous Faruqui wasn't convinced by that argument, drawing comparisons between Allen and defendants arrested for rioting at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. “To me, it’s extremely disturbing that he was put in five-point restraints, a person with no criminal history. It’s troubling. I never heard of one Jan. 6 defendant who was put in five-point restraints or in a safe cell. If the only way to keep him safe is the most punitive thing, that’s a problem.” “At a minimum, I should be apologizing to him. We are obligated to make sure he’s taken care of. Mr. Allen, I’m sorry that things have not been the way they are supposed to.”

@DanFriedman81 This one always blows my mind. We have the literal writings, diaries, in detail of the people involved. We know exactly what happened. Modern historians just decide that none of it counts. It's insane.

People seem to think that the white Spanish showed up and singlehandedly slaughtered the natives. Do you know how many Aztecs there were? Do you know how many Spanish there were? Do you think a thousand guys with single-shot black-powder rifles can take on 100,000 jaguar warriors with bows and spears? Your woke history class left some stuff out. When Hernan Cortes took Tenochtitlan, he was leading an army of fewer than 1500 Spaniards backed by between 100,000 and 200,000 native fighters who had allied with him because they all hated the Aztecs. The conquistadors destroyed the mesoamerican empires by organizing and uniting all the smaller tribes the empires had been oppressing. The arrival of the Spanish at the end of “Apocalypto” is God’s judgment being delivered upon the wicked. It takes some really twisted logic to try to argue that the people who built palaces out of human skulls were somehow the good guys in the conflict between the Spanish and the Aztecs or that their culture needed to be preserved.
tom bombadil@Authw8

i feel like nobody knows how to read this movie. the basic idea is we spend the whole movie getting madder and madder at the maya for what they did to this guy and his family. then suddenly at the end the spanish show up and we realize they're about to do the same exact shit on a much greater scale. it's an anti-colonialism movie from a very non-woke perspective, which people think is a contradiction for some reason
