What happens in the neck in cervical myelopathy? As we get older, the spine can slowly change. The discs lose height, bones can form extra edges, and ligaments may thicken or even turn into bone. Over time, these changes can make the space around the spinal cord smaller. When that space narrows, the spinal cord can become compressed. This may lead to symptoms like pain, weakness, numbness, or trouble with balance and walking. These changes are often described as “degeneration” on a scan. But for patients, the effects can be very real and can worsen if not recognized early.

As the week comes to a close, here’s something we don’t talk about enough: rest is not a luxury. For people living with chronic conditions, pushing through exhaustion, pain, or stress can come at a cost. What feels like “just getting through the week” can sometimes turn into a flare, a setback, or days of recovery. Rest is not laziness. It’s part of managing your health. Taking intentional breaks, pacing your energy, and listening to early signals from your body are strategies — not weaknesses. This weekend, give yourself permission to slow down before your body has to slow you down. #ChronicIllness #InvisibleIllness #SpoonieLife #RestIsProductive #PatientAdvocacy

“It’s easy to start comparing yourself to others but it’s so important we try not to… and don’t feel guilty if you have to take a week off because #chronicpain is not your fault, and you are only hurting yourself when you do too much.” buff.ly/4d8mfxa @sarahlynn358 #cpp

Headache on the Hill brings lived experience directly to policymakers. This year, five scholarship recipients were able to attend and advocate on behalf of the headache community. We are grateful to those who shared their stories and represented our community with courage.

“It’s a day-to-day battle… a lot of the time it feels more like just surviving… Pain makes the most simplest tasks, like getting out of bed or getting dressed, difficult feats. You’re battling everything. All of the time.” buff.ly/4blEHS3 #ChronicIllness #ChronicPain

Lifelong Learning Linked to 5-Year Delay in Alzheimer’s Onset New research reveals that consistent cognitive engagement from childhood through late adulthood is associated with a significantly lower risk of Alzheimer’s disease. The study, which followed nearly 2,000 individuals, found that those with high “lifetime cognitive enrichment”—activities such as reading, learning languages, and visiting museums—delayed the onset of dementia symptoms by up to five years. neurosciencenews.com/lifelong-learn…

Love does more than make Valentine’s Day cards sentimental. Brain imaging studies show that thinking about someone you love can reduce how strongly pain is felt by activating the brain’s reward and safety systems. It’s a reminder that connection isn’t just emotional—it’s biological.
