@chuck_player @Yuchenj_UW The code compiles, but your tests show incomplete execution at a solution. You show the bugs, give direct feedback and it still craps out. "Oh right I grabbed the wrong numbers let me try the *right* numbers" -> *gets even worse* -> "looks good to me" = $5 dollars of credits.

The vibe coded startups and current "founder" craze is just the .com bubble all over again. They'll blame AI when it inevitably fails, but it's mainly arrogance and greed.

@RuhaHaruta @aidenybai There's research that shows writing an md file like you're some ridiculous motivational speaker helps? Care to link to something peer reviewed and tested in real work scenarios?

@chuck_player @aidenybai Seems you’re not up to speed on the research, it also seems like youre stuck in the mindset of configuring agents like you would a human engineer. This will only get you so far.

@reactive_dude @Nosredna I don't have to think about, I have agents configured with the proper tool use for their role. It's faster and cheaper to have sonnet agents running in parallel with a haiku reviewer than it is to blast every task at Opus and needlessly burn through tokens and take longer.

@Nosredna Is it worth the time to even think about it? I feel Opus will always do the best job at any task I assign to it (maybe this assumption is wrong). I guess the case for Sonnet is that it's faster and cheaper, but I don't mind running agents longer for better results.

am i stupid for always using opus on max for all coding tasks? does it make sense to use other settings, if i’m not concerned about the rate limit?

@reactive_dude I use opus for planning/architectural level things and sonnet for implementation. Haiku does the simplest tasks. I keep the tasks tightly focused, and I review everything just like a would if a human wrote it. Choosing the right tool for the job has always been important.

@onlinedopamine @forgebitz That site was great when it started, then it went to shit. I had a top 1% rating and had them delete my account because I couldn't stand to be associated with the assholes that took over moderation. I also learned to code before SO was a thing.

ah yes the horrible 20m gatekeepers of software the thing that has unlimited resources to learn for free if 12-year-olds can figure out how to bot games for coins, but you can't figure out how to build an app, it's just skill issue

@forgebitz They just want an easy button so they don't have to put in the actual work it requires to write good software.

I had graduated college in the 90's with an art degree before moving to development. I never encountered anyone "gatekeeping", nothing but support and encouragement. Too many people want an "easy" button, and the vast majority of vibe coders will go the way of citizen developers from a couple of years ago. Writing quality software requires work, even with an LLM assisting.

They're not wrong about NOT using Opus for every little task. I see too many people posting about burning through tokens and showing screenshots of them asking Opus things that would be better with Sonnet or even Haiku - or even just a simple web search. I'm not grabbing a nail gun to hang a picture, why would I use Opus to place a button on a web page?

Why would you read all the code your AI coding agents and sub-agents produce? Your goal is to ship features as quickly as possible, not to obsess over code quality and bugs users will never run into. Don't waste time & tokens on reading/writing plans, specs, or tests either. Just keep shipping. You can tell AI to fix things later. More code = more features = more money. ^ That's what I'd tell my competitors

@rushicrypto Sorry for the loss of the $2,500. This person wasn't ever truly your friend, though. Not if they could do something like this. And ask them for the money and then take them to court if they don't pay it back.

lent a friend $2500 in january. good friend, known him for years. he said he needed it for rent and would pay me back in two weeks. i sent it instantly. it’s almost april now. i stayed quiet because asking for your own money back somehow makes you feel like the bad guy. meanwhile he’s posting dinners, concerts, new sneakers, trips. just living life. and it’s not even about the $2500 anymore. it’s the silence. like it never happened. crazy how money doesn’t ruin friendships, pretending it never existed does.

I'm really over the tech-bro 10x hustle culture influencer BS that's seems to be so prevalent. The garbage being put out there actively harms the industry. Bragging about puking out x LOC a day is misleading and dangerous. Yes, I'm significantly faster with AI because I can't type that fast. Otherwise, I'm the one in charge and I review everything it writes. I'm not risking deploying garbage code because I want to gain followers on twitter.

guys, i honestly do not like clowning on Gary. I don't find being the butt of a joke funny, so I imagine he does not either. But, this is what worries me about where we are going. We are actively encouraging an entire generation that the tech is there when its not, and a couple of silly mistakes made on a website isn't the end of the world, but people's data and breaches are serious. We are entering a very VERY hackable world, and I do not like it one bit.
gregorein@Gregorein

so... I audited Garry's website after he bragged about 37K LOC/day and a 72-day shipping streak. here's what 78,400 lines of AI slop code actually looks like in production. a single homepage load of garryslist.org downloads 6.42 MB across 169 requests. for a newsletter-blog-thingy. 1/9🧵
