I see Leafs fans saying "even if they finish 5th last, odds are they still give the 6th pick to Boston" If the Leafs finish 6th last, their is only a 15% chance they keep their pick and move into the top 5. If they finish 5th last, their is a 42% chance they stay in the top 5.

@churleyboy The Leafs will do everything in their power to be competitive in 2027-2028.

Last year the Boston Bruins sold off Brad Marchand and Brandon Carlo and had lost Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci to retirement. They traded Marchand for a conditional 2nd round pick. If the Florida Panthers won at least 2 rounds and Marchand played in at least 50% of those games, the Bruins would get the Panthers 2027 1st rounder or 2028. However, because the Panthers are likely to pick in the top 10, the pick will slide to 2028 but UNPROTECTED. Meanwhile, they got their 3C in Fraser Minten and a 1st rounder from the Toronto Maple Leafs for Brandon Carlo. If the Leafs pick in the top 5, the Bruins likely get their UNPROTECTED 2028 pick. To top it off, they snagged James Hagens 7th overall in the 2025 NHL Draft and have 5 first round picks over the next 3 drafts. The window with Swayman, Pastrnak, and McAvoy is NOT closed. #NHLBruins

Kirby Dach’s qualifying is 4 million dollars - I would venture a guess unless the Habs find a trading partner for the oft injured forward, he will go unqualified and be a free agent. He is definitely someone I’d be interested in for the Leafs to take a 1 year gamble on
