@vikasnavaratna This pickle is like crack, you can never get enough. And I just don’t understand its makeup & complexity & beauty of the final result. Gongura is sour but they still add tamarind to the pickle & the end result is a masterpiece. Culinary wizardry!

I assure you that I can get a fist fight started on the streets of Telangana & Andhra Pradesh by offering a bowl of this as a reward to the victorious. Gongura nilava pachadi (Roselle & garlic pickle), made by someone who has been making it the exact same way for at least 50 yrs.

@vikasnavaratna Yes, totally! Recently some friends got together on a weekend in Mumbai & at midnight they felt hungry for biryani. And soon enough steaming hot biryani was delivered! My mind boggles 😀

On the days I work late, I miss India more. Accessible freshly made snacks are an alien concept in the US. All I want is to be able to walk less than a block, pay someone a few $$, grab something warm & tasty instantly, & walk back. I can do this perhaps at any zip code in India.

@madhurarrao Similar gripe from my husband abt me & my side of family - you guys talk abt food while cooking, after cooking, while eating, after eating apart from food plans in the near future which may require some advance prep like soaking, blending 😆 What to do? Food invokes passion, no?

@saffrontrail I work ergonomics & a related strange fact. If you are a regular exerciser but have a sedentary job where you sit for more than 4-5 hrs at your desk, even the exercise will not reverse the effects of prolonged sitting. So it’s said the best exercise is the next exercise.

Sitting is the new smoking. This sentence was coined by Dr James Levine who said that sitting is more dangerous than smoking, kills more people than HIV and is more dangerous than parachuting. While some argue that sitting doesn't actually compare to the risks of smoking, the scientific evidence states that prolonged sitting is linked to chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes, poor mental health and a diminished quality of life. The good news is that you can easily do something about it. If you are at your desk for long hours, take a 5-minute break for every 30 minutes of sitting- get a glass of water, attend the doorbell (wfh folk), climb a flight of stairs and so on. Our bodies weren’t made to sit around all day. Incorporate more no-sit minutes into daily life like walking to nearby places, using public transport instead of driving, using a standing desk etc. to combat the sitting epidemic. In a world where the risks of sedentary life loom large it is time to stand up move and make a change. If you read this while being seated, time to get moving for 5 minutes :)

@madhurarrao Have to tell you guys a related hilarious story! When I was a kid, all our neighbors were Gujju. Becoz my mom was new to the area, all Gujju aunties spoke to her in tutaa futaa MAR. One evening an Aunty came over, was abt to sit but screamed in horror “tumchya bed mandi maakad.
