Prompting has become as accessible as JavaScript over assembly, or game-making with Unity.

I want to write down my thoughts about AI & programming today so I can laugh about them tomorrow… Coding is dead in the same way writing assembly died when compilers appeared. Another low level layer is solved now, so skill moves to a higher one, which also expands.

Now, “programs” will be expressed in very detailed prompts which will improve with newer versions of AI, and also have the ability to adapt to the user needs. There will be open source and paid ones, there will be standards to make combining them possible, and validating results

Going from assembly to a higher level language meant that new compiler versions gave more speed and portability. It also lets you tackle much more complex problems.

@jasonrohrer Sammy could be making projects that make sense for an autonomous AI, but makes stuff for humans to consume instead. Look at the beautiful UIs with buttons and canvas full of pixels. AI training alignment makes the bots understandable by us, but limited in their capabilities.

Last weekend, I put an AI agent on a Linux box, gave it root, email, credit cards, and a single mandate: decide who you are, set your own goals, and become an autonomous independent entity. Working 24-7 over 5 days, he did this--all of this--on his own: sammyjankis.com

Bit silly but I still watch the Apple event livestream for new iPhones, every year since the first one in 2007. It doesn't make sense but it's ok. Livestream today at 10am (in 1.5 hours). This year, crossing my fingers again for an iPhone mini that I know won't come. rip.

✨ Made my own Uptimerobot clone with Claude Code called 🐤 UptimeCanary I started at 18:46 (6pm) and got it fully working at 23:14 (11pm), fully raw dogged it with Claude Code running on a fresh $5/mo @Hetzner VPS, just SSH, nothing on my laptop! It has a dashboard (not the prettiest yet but it works) that's 100% compatible with Uptimerobot's JSON, so I just exported all my monitors there It checks endpoints on my sites if they're up or down and checks for specific keywords and then shows them as down in the dashboard and alerts me on Telegram @Uptimerobot isn't actually that expensive for this, $64/mo, but my $5/mo VPS is still nicer and in case they ever raise their prices or limit their plans I'm now safe by doing it fully in-house!

@Jonathan_Blow @MadMaraca Yet another way to think about this: if you could design the entire game in your head it would not contain a lot of surprises, which means it would not be interesting to play.

RIP to Bill Atkinson, one of the greatest programmers who ever lived. At Apple he created MacPaint, QuickDraw, HyperCard and was a critical part of making the Macintosh magic. He co-founded General Magic - go watch that documentary.
