@SimonWDC @gtconway3d Volunteered to knock doors in Reno Nevada and the crew signed us in, gave us our lists, and fed us when we were done. They had four bus loads of volunteers show up while I was enjoying my tacos. Such organization. Such heart. All gas. No brakes.

Starting today w/a big shout out to the Harris-Walz campaign team. We are seeing arguably the best run and most remarkable Presidential campaign in modern history. Degree of difficultly this year has been very high, and their ambition and execution has been off the charts. 1/

As @KamalaHarris reminded us all today when I joined her in Michigan with @Liz_Cheney, do not despair. Yes, we are all feeling anxious, stressed, unsure. But this is a moment for us all to decide how we want to move forward. To recognize that we all have a decision to make, and while we might disagree, that is part of the process. The American people have the power in their hands to choose the next president by exercising their right to vote. Let’s rise to this moment, but not give in to the hate and division. We can disagree on many issues, yet still come together in the end. In fact, today, I bore witness to what coming together for the good of the country looks like — country over party. That’s a decision only you can make, and only you get to decide. But in the end, do not despair. #vote

One thing I keep reflecting on, especially in context of recent events (CA's winter storm onslaught & dramatic increasingly dramatic hydroclimate whiplash), is how high societal need is for scientist-communicators & others who offer critical context as events unfold in real-time.

@PPICWater 82-83 brought both water and white bass to Tulare Lake. White bass thrived in the new lake. Fish and Game needed a team to come in to eradicate the white bass so Boswell could pump the water out without moving white bass into the delta. And so my career in water was born.

@matt_weiser I remember a TNC dinner where they shared old home movies of the shores of Tulare Lake and the flocks of water birds it supported

This is why Tulare Lake (before it was eliminated to create farms in Kern County) was once the largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi River. And why the San Joaquin Valley once had a wealth of groundwater (before it was pumped out to irrigate those farms).
