@unhco, alongside key stakeholders, has launched the Uganda Tobacco Industry Interference Index 2025. @BagumaRT has emphasized the need to tax tobacco products and urged collective responsibility in enforcement. The loss of 5,284 lives, largely due to tobacco, is deeply alarming.

Today 10th March 2026, we, the UTTC presented the petition to the Speaker of Parliament for the parliament to increase taxes on cigarettes in the next F/Y budget. We are hopeful that the Speaker will make a record on making cigarettes unaffordable to our younger ones. @AnitahAmon

When enforcement isn’t intentional, illicit trade thrives. Celebrities get influenced to glamorize tobacco use across social media, TV, & radio. The tobacco industry is always hunting for loopholes, despite Uganda banning online tobacco sales, sites continue to operate openly.

If people can’t unite over children being sexually abused, there’s really no hope for humanity.

Despite multiple tobacco industry interference, it has been found in the Africa Tobacco Industry Interference Africa Index 2025 by @AfricaNoTobacco that Uganda is taking strong legal steps to protect public health policy from the Industry interference. #TaxTobaccoSaveLivesUg
