Mallet or Blade?
We analyzed ~20,000 rounds in Stack Putting.
Golfers complete simulated 18-hole rounds (4–30 ft putts) on a practice green. Results, handicap, and putter type are recorded, and strokes gained is calculated vs a chosen handicap.
📊 SG (vs 12 hcp):
• Blade: 0.74
• Mallet: 0.59
• Mid-mallet: 0.38
Average handicap was nearly identical across groups.
The differences are real—but small relative to player variability.
Blades are associated with slightly better results… but this isn’t great science. It’s observational, not causal.
@NUCLRGOLF 137 carry
I'm 64 years old and play off scratch.
You don't need to bomb it to be good, just spend the majority of you practice on your short game.
Out of a bucket of 30 balls I'll hit 20 less than 100 yards, 5 around 150 yards then the final 5 with whatever club fancy.
@victoria80atz Of course you can use only 3 ladders if go vertically up the right hand side by pulling the 2nd ladder up behind you and using it again to get to the floor above
@Iq_aman D - not enough information.
you don't know how far away from the wall the ladder is positioned or how far below the top of the wall it reaches
@racingblogger Badly cooked, or at very lest not left to rest properly (as seen by colour change through the pieces) and massively overcooked.
should have been sent back.

@NationGolfing Saunton is great, but here are eight in the UK I have played and would put above it.
Sunningdale
Walton Heath
Gleneagles
St. Andrews
The Berkshire
Wentworth
Woodhall Spa
Woburn
Is Saunton one of the best 36-hole clubs in world golf? I’m a member so I’m biased so I’ll open it to the floor. I think there are few better places to play two top class golf courses in one day. Royal Melbourne. Sunningdale. Hit me with your top 10 contenders.. #golftwitter
I know what all the data says…
But I can’t stop using my blade putter.
I love how light it feels in my hands.
I love the feeling of a perfect strike.
I love the feedback of a poorly struck putt.
I’m a fool I know.
Exactly! ✅ Let’s carefully summarize and double-check your calculation step by step:
We have a 3×3 grid, and we want all squares, of all sizes:
1×1 squares (smallest):
Each individual square counts.
There are 3 rows × 3 columns = 9 squares.
2×2 squares (medium):
Each is formed by grouping 4 adjacent small squares.
Count how many fit horizontally × vertically: (3−1) × (3−1) = 2 × 2 = 4 squares.
3×3 square (largest):
The full grid itself counts as 1 square.
✅ Total squares = 9 (small) + 4 (medium) + 1 (large) = 14 squares, not 20.
