Is the issue that he can’t hear or that he can’t think? Seems to me that if he needs closed captioning it’s a hearing issue and framing it ‘as not understanding’ is deeply problematic.

@lourdesgnavarro two, being hearing impaired has made me more observant. sometimes i see the damnedest things quickly. you enjoyed the table talk in a restaurant. i left knowing who is left-handed, attuned to the waiter's relationship to his boss, and knowing the bearded guy at bar is carrying.
