America famously was not built to be a high-trust society — the 13 Colonies had more civil wars between one another prior to Independence than the UK did during its entire existence as Britain. We were built to be a colonial dumping ground for heretics, renegades, and criminals — that’s foundational to our national DNA. Actually becoming a high trust society took a lot of work (and it was mostly foisted upon the average American by the Federal government), and a lot of that work revolved around ignoring chuds like @ America.

Pigs are exceptionally clean. The misconception of them being dirty comes from a misinterpretation of their evolutionary adaptation. Unlike humans, pigs have very few eccrine sweat glands over their bodies. So they can't sweat out internal heat as we do. To make matters worse, domestically bred pigs have thicker layers of subcutaneous fat, which heats their core even more. Wild pigs have evolved a way out --> wallowing in clean mud. The mud coating keeps them cool through evaporative cooling. It also protects their hairless skin from UV damage and parasite attack. This urge to cool down in mud is hardwired in a pig's instinct. The problem arises in industrial settings where proper wallowing facilities are not provided & pigs are crammed in closed pigsties. To cool themselves down, they resort to covering themselves in their own waste. If given clean wallowing facilities, pigs are conscious enough to keep their latrine and living areas completely separate. The problem exists because we don't understand their biological and evolutionary needs.

Digimon Frontier is the season I revisit the least, but I’ll never forget my first reaction: “What? Humans can transform into Digimon?” 😆 Even so, it has a compelling story and some of the most epic Digimon designs in the entire franchise. P/s : I especially love KendoGarurumon (Garummon). His design is just incredibly cool. #digimon #digimonfrontier #デジモン #デジモンフロンティア

When Russia invaded Ukraine, the vast majority of the Global South stayed neutral and most of the radical left was unwilling to clearly and unequivocally condemn Russia for its actions. It was their opportunity to finally prove that they're on the side of liberal universalism and that they, too, are willing to participate in building a juster world for everyone, but the opposite happened. They were instead worried about their good relations with Russia and didn't feel like the war concerned them It made me realise that the Global South uses terms like human rights, international law etc. only when it's convenient to them, just like the West does. It shattered my belief that a world order could be built without a hegemon enforcing it. It shifted my outlook on geopolitics much more towards realism. Eventually this resulted in me understanding that different nations and cultures have their own proper interests that can be diametrically opposed to one another. Once you lose your faith in some kind of universal humanity, you have to stop being a leftist.

looking back these results were actually kind of crazy. how or why did so many turn from the left to the right?

@scorbunnydream True! She fits the vibe of Doraemon and his original Japanese voice the most compared to all his other English voices (I think these two are good voices too, but not as good as Mona Marshall’s voice)

🧵THREAD: I want you to see this clearly. Two hours after a man with a shotgun fired shots at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, sixteen of the most prominent MAGA influencers on X all posted the same message. The message was not "thank God the President is safe." The message was "this is why we need the White House ballroom."

@nxt888 You would be the type of person begging for US intervention if the Japanese did Nanking style crimes against humanity in your native Vietnam. Sit down

Ask an American about the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. A substantial portion will tell you it was necessary. Tragic, but necessary. It ended the war. It saved lives. Hard choices in impossible circumstances. Now ask them how they would feel if another country had done it to an American city. Watch the framework collapse in real time. Suddenly "necessary" is not a category that applies. Suddenly there are no hard choices and impossible circumstances. Suddenly it is simply: a crime. An act of war. An atrocity. This is not hypocrisy in the ordinary sense. This is a two-tiered moral universe so deeply internalized that most people living inside it cannot see the structure at all. Violence done to Americans is atrocity by definition. Violence done by Americans requires context. Requires understanding. Requires a discussion of the strategic situation. This is the psychological furniture. This is what empire builds inside the people who benefit from it. And it is almost invisible from the inside.
