Soldiers from 51st Battalion, headquartered in Cairns, have assisted in flood affected areas today. Some small naval assets from HMAS Cairns were also assisting with emergencies overnight.

Confirmation the ADF is sending 2 Chinooks and 2 AW-139s (they're the interim, leased multi-role helos) to the Cairns region to help with emergency operations, and plans to transport 150 Qld Fire & Emergency personnel into Cairns amid the region's flood crisis.
