@CarlWebster @FlexxibleIT Not a word I use often, it you’ve been a true stalwart of our industry - thanks for everything you’ve done to contribute over the last few decades! Enjoy the new ‘gig’! 👏👏👏

Today is my last official day of work at @FlexxibleIT. I am taking PTO/vacation/holidays for the rest of December, and on January 1, 2025, I am officially 100% retired. After 47 years and 4 months in IT, it is time to move on to my next life phase. I'll be doing a lot of volunteer service work and enjoying life with my amazing fiancée. It has been an honor and a pleasure to have worked with quite a few of you and helped some of you through my EUC community work. You can always find me at webster@carlwebster.com.

@RonOglesby @UnideskCorp Won't mean much to many but I find this old add3 business card from about 2006 on some old luggage the other day too..

@zacbowden Great for us in enterprise IT, AVD is awesome. But for home users? I guess they will be more reliant on a solid connection than they ever were before.

Microsoft is announcing its first mini desktop PC today! It costs $349 and has an Intel chip, 8GB RAM, and 64GB storage, but it's not your typical mini PC. It's called the "Windows 365 Link" and only runs Windows 11 via the cloud 👀 DETAILS: windowscentral.com/software-apps/… #Windows11

so, you have to deploy the device. you have to mange it with intune. you have to pay for loads of cloud stuff e.g. Office + desktop etc. you still have to asset manage it. It won't work offline. it's just a locked in thin client isn't it? The numbers won't add up for most orgs/use cases.

I don’t understand this device…. It’s a thin client. The year of vdi was in 2012 or something and every other year after…… and it just doesn’t fit a lot of use cases.

I love a heritage car at the best of times, but none more so than getting to drive a car my parents had when I was in my teens, with all sorts of memories attached. I don’t think anyone has ever been so keen to drive a diesel Octavia!

@paulsanders87 Can leverage existing management tools/techniques.. for Enterprises, combining W365 and AVD to take advantage of the strengths of each, for the appropriate use cases can make a lot of sense

Here’s a question - what are the actual benefits to using windows365 over Azure Virtual desktop? I’m focused more around enterprise than SME, as I’ve not been able to write a single business case where it stacks up better. Maybe for the odd random use case - but not strategically

@paulsanders87 For users who absolutely need dedicated, persistent, single user desktops, the cost is typically in W365s favour (subject to no. hrs used etc), fixed price can be attractive (especially when cross charging), simpler initial deployment (if you don’t already have ELZ)..

I’ve met so many people who “hated history” in school because it was taught to them as a list of battle dates, but fell in love with it as adults when they read a witty, well-written historical biography. History is not a list of dates; it’s about people.

@InTheCloudsGabe While the RemotePC/MacOS hosts are likely on-prem, I’m not sure it’s correct to say that 99% of customers are running on-prem CVAD control plane these days..

Great news - although a bit of a caveat for customers running @citrix Remote PC Access on-premises (CVAD) that want to add remoting to cubicle Macs; the biggest use case for over 13 years. Read the fine print, still in Tech Preview for you. More here: linkedin.com/posts/gabecarr…

@eleanor_tavener I’m guessing they’re described ’non-professional’ as that’s not their job.. I assume (and hope!) that they’re sufficiently trained etc, but it’s just not their profession.. (hello by the way! 👋)

The private astronauts are described as ‘non-professional’. Can only those trained and operating on behalf of their state be professional? #PrivateAstronauts
