I visited an elderly neighbour yesterday as I was dropping off some shopping for them. I noticed a DNR order on the table. It had been signed by a doctor but not by my neighbour. I asked where it had come from as it wasn’t there when I popped around last Thursday. My neighbour said they had no idea and hadn’t even noticed it. The only people who’d been to see them in that time was a cleaner and a selection of carers. I guessed one of the carers dropped it off. I suggested calling the GP ASAP and find out why this paperwork has suddenly appeared. I took a photo of it (with my neighbour’s permission) and I’ve since managed to get it interpreted with the help of an expert member of my group. It would appear the DNR was written up while my neighbour was ill in hospital last year where they were assessed using a clinical frailty scale. They’re marked down as very frail - which was the case back then but not now. All very sinister.
