On this day in 1928, the Supreme Court ruled that qualified persons, under Section 24 of the British North America Act, did not include women. The Famous Five took their case to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in England, which ruled in their favour on Oct. 18, 1929.

On an evening like this, my mum would take us to the lake for a picnic. We'd have a driftwood fire and play in the water, eat ourselves silly, and head home sand-covered, mum singing some of the old songs as we went.
