And one major problem with knowing too much or seeing things clearly is that you lose the ability to participate in certain illusions that make life easier for everyone else.

I also reached the same conclusion after being a digital nomad for 6 years before Covid hit. It gets even worse when you are a little introverted, as I am. I built zero meaningful friendships during these 6 years, and I am not even talking about relationships! On the positive side, I had countless experiences that most people will never have that shaped how I think and understand the world in a unique way. I wasn't attracted to "novelty", but to "understanding". Sure, it got lonely sometimes, then I went hiking on a volcano in South Korea, through a jungle in Malaysia, and I lived one month in a hut on a remote island of the Philippines, and it made it (quite) worth it 😊

I know a girl here in Barcelona. She's only here for 10 months due to a work contract. After that, her visa will expire, and she has to go back to her home country. 6 months in, she met a guy, and she fell in love. They hang out a lot, and they're completely smitten over one another. But they can't ignore the elephant in the room, which is that their relationship has a built-in ticking time bomb, and there's only 4 months left on the timer clock. So both of them don't even know if they should continue to invest into one another, or just save it so as to avoid the inevitable heartbreak that will come in less than half a year. Honestly I don't see the point of the whole "digital nomad" lifestyle where you're in a place for a few months or even a whole damn year. You can't build any deep lasting relationships with anyone, romantic or otherwise. You're just touch-and-go with every destination you arrive at. Not to mention the annoying visa runs you have to do -- imagine turning travel into a fucking chore. The novelty of a new place every 3-6 months will wear off quickly anyway. Your rootless existence will get old really fast. Because, guess what, human beings all need a home base, some stability, a place to belong to. A rolling stone gathers no moss.

I had croissants and baguettes since I was able to eat solid food. My dad used to give me wine mixed with water when I was a child. My mom cooked bœuf bourguignon at home. I ate foie gras for Christmas and other traditional dishes for Easter and other holidays cooked by my aunts and grandma. I don't care what school you studied in or under what chef you learned, it can never replace my French upbringing that hammered an instinct for good croissants, cheeses and wines into every cell of my body!

Every time I go to Paris I go to a bakery on the Blvd St Germain that makes the best croissants in the city and I can tell you everyone who works there is as French as it’s possible to get. I actually do believe it’s impossible for a foreigners to make national cuisine properly. The croissant, the baguette, boeuf bourguignon, cassoulet, etc. are literally in the blood of the French and no matter how well made they are by a foreigner, they will never be authentic. You can taste when a Frenchman has made them.
Pascal-Emmanuel Gobry@pegobry_en

Every year they create a fake competition to show an immigrant making the best baguette. Obviously it’s not impossible for an immigrant to make a good baguette but as a reference here are the most recent winners of the Meilleur Apprenti de France contest, craftsmen who are judged by actual professional peers on merit and not an unknown fake jury.

Most of the people you see when you go outside your home are NPCs. Not in a derogatory way. They are on autopilot. They don't think, they don't question, they don't doubt. At their core, they all have the same interests, the same likes and dislikes, the same opinions, the same vision of reality. Their manifestations seem different because they are adorned with various details, but they are intrinsically the same. Artificial intelligence is making it clearer and clearer that the 2-minute conversations you have at the supermarket, at the pharmacy or in traffic with humans are indistinguishable from conversations you can have with ChatGPT. This system works because the NPCs are not conscious of being NPCs. They believe they are unique and different and don't realize they lead the same life as everybody else. There is nothing wrong or bad about being an NPC. For a single queen bee, there are millions of bees on autopilot, without which she would die.
