Thanks to @16WAPTNews for covering our recent updates at the Waterworks Connector. The more our residents know about this amazing project right in their own backyard, the more we can do to help everyone reach and maintain their health and wellness goals.

This is great news! What an eyesore that needs to be cleaned up. I appreciate Judge Reynolds in taking action and the City for cleaning it up.

NEVER have I spoke and parents AND kids were lining up to tell me great job and that they were in tears. 🥹I see why I was nervous yesterday. I had to press in to figure out what to say. God was like you got to ask me. So this morning about 6 am he gave me everything.
Many of you all don’t know my brother is incarcerated. My biological father abandoned me as a child as he dealt with his issues. Those that know me know being relatable is key for me. God was like “tell your story.”
Message was “Go get it!” I talked to them about being Successful with focus on kids going back to school. My 3 points on this journey towards success were “There will be SACRIFICE” “At times STRUGGLE” and “sometimes SHAME.” For each point I gave a reference, quote with some personal stories.
Many kids look at me as they see success in their eyes but have no idea what I’ve gone through to get here. Being able to let them know I too shared and still share some of the same battles I think resonated well today. They needed to hear I didn’t always get it right. Enjoyed telling the parents to give kids short term goals and they won’t all make all A’s but push them to be their best.
Told them the story between Kobe and Iverson and how AI wanted to hang out after one of their games and Kobe was like you can join me at the gym. I asked them how many rings each one of them had as I explained greatness comes with sacrifice.
Talked about entitlement, work ethic, and humility and how I worked at Walmart making $6/hour. Told them you can’t take the elevator to success you got to take the steps and embrace the journey learning lessons along the way. When pandemic hit and I didn’t want to lay off employees I cleaned my toilets and mopped my floors remembering my first job and never feeling too proud to do any task. Shared that struggle amongst others as revenue plummeted.
Referenced Matt 6:33 and importance of not chasing things but chase purpose. Told them learn to clap for themselves and not seek the approval of peers for attention. Told them their talent can take them places character can’t handle so stay grounded.
Lastly shared how the absence of my father greatly impacted me. Proverbs 3:5 as I didn’t understand and they won’t always understand the WHY but always remember WHO. God doesn’t ask us for permission for what he allows. Father finally tried to come around before my graduation only to let me down once again as I get a text that morning he wasn’t coming. I had the most amount of guests at my graduation but his absence made me feel alone, unwanted, not good enough in a sea of support.
Learned later my father was neglected by his father. After crying on Father’s Days and refusing to get on social media because I couldn’t handle seeing so many “greatest father ever posts” I eventually learned true forgiveness in church. Told them one of the greatest signs of maturity is to forgive someone for something they never apologize for…told them I drove to New Orleans to let my old man know I forgave him and how that release was vital for my growth towards my success.
He has never apologized but I told them it’s now between him and God. Told them they don’t always control what happens to them but they control how they respond.
I cannot do the talk justice on this thread as I only shared some and you can’t hear the emotions I poured out but I wanted to share how powerful it was as I can still feel the fire that was at First Baptist today. They’re truly doing God’s work and those families were blessed today. One little girl kept telling me how moved she was and I just had to step away as I had another event to get to and I couldn’t break down right there.
God I just thank you for your favor during this season and the vessel you’re allowing me to be. I have soooooo much belief that we can REALLY change Mississippi if we all get on one accord and work selflessly better together.
