Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal stated that India aims to achieve 2 trillion dollars in exports within the next 6 to 7 years, including 1 trillion dollars in merchandise exports and 1 trillion dollars in services exports. This target rests on three pillars: zero defect (quality), zero effect (sustainability), and equitable opportunity (inclusivity). Progress under the Export Promotion Mission (EPM) was reviewed during the engagement with Export Promotion Councils. Key interventions include enhanced access to export credit through interest subvention, collateral guarantee support for MSME exporters and targeted market access initiatives. Additional measures in trade finance, logistics, compliance and branding are being implemented in phases to further reinforce India’s export ecosystem and accelerate global integration. India and the Gulf Cooperation Council have formally launched negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement with the signing of the Terms of Reference on 5 February 2026 in New Delhi.
