@blightersort It's literally the same argument as in 1776 -- without some sort of power-sharing agreement, small states would never join and would leave as soon as possible. Nobody wants to be ruled by California.

there are in fact good civic arguments for the electoral college but they hinge on the fact that the united states is a union of states so things like the president (and in its original conception the senate) should be decided by state which, yes, may have different populations. but today no one understands anything so everyone thinks it should just be popular national vote for everything.
James Surowiecki@JamesSurowiecki

There's no good civic argument for the electoral college. It was arguably necessary to ensure the ratification of the Constitution, but it's an anti-democratic device that gives some American citizens far more voting power than others, based purely on where they live.

@admcrlsn I think the Chinese government sucks and does awful things, but if someone tells me that they like China, I don't verbally or physically assault them or organize a mob to harass them at their home, school, business, and/or place of worship, because I'm not a raging bigot.

@IsThisA3DModel This looks more ridiculous than that 3D TV stuff they pushed. Regular flat screen is good for the next several hundred years. Heck 4k on screens smaller than 28" is probably good enough for the next few hundred years. Reinvention or upgrades become pointless at some point.

@BaseballCarl1 Of course theres multitude of reasons for abstaining on a challenge The point is players are afforded that luxury, while umpires have no choice but to call every pitch To suggest an umpire "missed" a call by half an inch is an absurd standard. That's the point of my post

@BigBobsCards The fact that you said “the MLB” tells me that you’re an embarrassment to discussion of MLB. It literally proves that you don’t even know how sentences work. You’re a child.

I still have the same question or the same areas of curiosity. If a quarter of what we can see of earth from the space capsule is in sunlight and the rest of what we see is in darkness and the moon that we see is in darkness, can someone please map out or show in a chart where the sun is in relation to both, and what is the angle of illumination that is causing this illumination and darkness? Isn’t anyone else curious to see how this all relates?

@piersmorgan Piers, the entire fucking quote, you lying sack of shit. Trump means the blood-soaked mullah regime's "civilisation" dies—not the Iranian people he literally blesses at the end. You're not misrepresenting; you're fabricating outrage for clicks like the pathetic hack you are.

You are not being rational show me one action made by Trump that shows any indication that he wishes to kill millions of people? If you want to say he chose the wrong word that’s fine. You know his intent is not to kill all the people of Iran, but you are saying that is his intent because of his wording only.

I've never understood the whole 'share your location' thing and it has me worried I'm turning into Old Man Yelling At Clouds Neither I nor my wife have ever shared location (with anyone). I didn't even know it was a thing people did. Seems bizarre, but apparently is normal?
mads campbell@martyrdison

i once dated someone and we got into a playful argument about why they wouldn’t share location “i’m a very private person, this feels like it’s moving too fast, that’s a big step” months later, after it didn’t work out, we were friends and i said “ok i need your location for logistics” he admitted the real reason he wouldn’t share it was because he never left the house and didn’t want anyone to see

@cryptopunk7213 “Pixar-grade” is a description that comes from the fact that Pixar has now existed for 30 years. Which is the only reason AI can do this so easily. And if artists rely on AI to make their work, all we’ll get is another 30, 50, 100 years of the same.

genuine question: why are the arts and gaming communities so fucking touchy about ai? i get that 99% of examples are slop but we’re reaching a point where ai-generated media is indistinguishable for 90% of the world that shouldn’t go un-acknowledged just because you want to hide behind a professional identity ai isn’t going away, it’s getting (a lot) better, so why not try and figure out how to work with it to your advantage? isn’t that what a bunch of hollywood is realising now? doomer: “NO THIS IS NOWHERE CLOSE TO PIXAR GRADE” 8 year old (target audience): “haha that’s awesome” what am i missing?
Is this a 3D model?@IsThisA3DModel

no and this is nowhere close to "Pixar-grade"

@GermanicFren @SomeRndmGuyUT @NASA For one they aren’t clumped. The ISS is visible from earth almost every night, it’s the size of a football field and even only 250 miles away it looks like a fast very bright dot moving by itself.

so how does the spaceship fly that fast and dodge all the satellites and debris? i am pretty sure if i saw all these satellites clumped together, like thousands of ants, i would see em, alongside the debris, but nope, you get just a plain old clear picture a sucker born every minute.
