🚨🗣NEW: "Irish speakers pay rates across Belfast… It’s about taking Irish out of the political arena and into the community where it belongs." 🎥🎤Chief Reporter @jamesgould23 speaking to @sinnfeinireland Councillor @TomasON_SF. He outlined his views on the Draft Irish Language Policy, saying the proposals would boost the visibility of Irish in the city and stressing that Belfast has "the most lively and energetic Irish language community in Ireland." On staff safety concerns, he said he would always support council workers and if there are any issues they should be dealt with by the police. Belfast City Council will debate the issue tomorrow night.

Can you tell us how he died, where, and why?

The all-island economy has flourished in recent years, creating enormous opportunities for workers, families, and businesses across Ireland. This evening, I met with the Tánaiste and we agreed the priority is to protect jobs, businesses, and the all-island economy during EU–US trade developments. I will continue to meet with political and business leaders, both at home and internationally, to further grow our economy, delivering hope and opportunity for all our people.

Our young people are some of the brightest minds in our society. It’s either sheer ignorance to suggest they aren’t mature enough to vote or there’s something to fear from it. Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh sí.

Unfortunately in this instance as in so many others “reconciliation” means conforming to their particular view. Hard to believe there’s an actual attempt to try and rationalise objections to kids playing sport 🤷‍♂️

Children should be allowed to play together at summer camp without facing intolerance. These developments are deeply worrying and unacceptable. Sport has the power to unify. Political representatives must call this out. We need to send a clear message that we will continue moving forward together to build a brighter society and overcome such unacceptable intolerance.

Those responsible for this violence bring nothing to our communities but hatred, fear, and division.

I have written to An Taoiseach urging him to make representations to the British Prime Minister for the immediate establishment of a public inquiry into the murder of Seán Brown. Seán’s widow, Bridie, their daughters, and wider family have waited far too long for truth and justice. They should not be forced to endure the indignity of further cynical and protracted legal appeals.

Reconciliation for some means there can be no space for alternative narratives. That can’t be the case. Either we have differing narratives and the space for them to be aired or it doesn’t work. Reconciliation can’t be about telling people they’re wrong.

A special meeting of Belfast City Council will take place on Thursday to mark the passing of Pope Francis, following a proposal by Sinn Féin. Pope Francis was a man of deep faith and unwavering leadership. It’s only right that we, as a council and as a city, honour his legacy.
