The Haymarket memorial is a smallish statue on the side of a busy street that didn't go up until 2004 but the plaques on it from all over the world kinda fucked me up. The rest of the world genuinely cares about it more than anyone around here.

There are a handful of cities left in America where the decline was so rapid and sudden in the 1970s and 1980s that the amazing architecture from the late 19th century is still preserved because it was not economical to tear it down and put up glass and steel boxes in the 90s and early 2000s

@chicagobars Isn't the CTA famously not on Twitter? Every single time I've submitted feedback via their form (good and bad!) I've gotten a response. Not everything has an easy solution but the CTA is filled with a lot of good people trying their best with the limited resources they have.

Lol. I can 100% assure Austin the CTA moves much quicker when a tweet about their dirty stations gets 100K views in 48 hours.
Their app & related chat bot is mid (at best). It doesn’t even let you select multiple issues when reporting CTA filth.

Emailed the CTA about this and they cleaned it within 36 hours. You don’t have to pass by dirty stations everyday. Reach out with a reasonable request and they’ll usually do something about it. Yes they’re slow and bureaucratic but in general they want you to enjoy the CTA

Falling down a rabbit hole researching a big empty building on Michigan Avenue, I stumbled across this absolutely fabulous 1994 Reader piece by Cate Plys where she asks Chicago architects which building they would blow up.
