@bourne0513 @bestofStarTrek The Enterprise cast loved In A Mirror,Darkly because it allowed them to really stretch themselves and go outside their established characters.
Plus, Jolene loved not having to wear the wig in those episodes.

His health was the big part of why he stepped down from active involvement in TNG.
Of course,he still tried to act like he was the final voice,but by that point,the people running the day to day operations for TNG were largely ignoring him.

Gene Roddenberry listened to his lawyer Leonard Maizlish more than the people he worked with for years. His health was deteriorating by season three and four and had mini strokes. Before the production of the Next Generation by Paramount he was sent to a rehab clinic to make sure he was clean. Roddenberry was on Coke during the Motion Picture. Maizlish himself was eventually banned from the Paramount lot but the damage was done.
