Bruce McKean is among the most inspiring, kind and caring humans that I've ever met. He was a rock for us in the early days of Shopify and supported us when no one else did. Multiple times, he took money from his government job savings and wrote me cheques so I could meet payroll. Shopify wouldn't have made it without that. Since then, he has been quietly giving away the money he made to causes such as mental health research. Today we get to celebrate him publicly for being the awesome person he is.

We’re proud to announce the new Waverley House Secure Care & Recovery Building at CAMH in recognition of support totaling $203M from Bruce McKean and Waverley House Foundation. It is the largest cumulative gift to #mentalhealth in Canadian history. MORE: camh.ca/en/camh-news-a…

It doesn't feel quite right but I wished to thank my @OsgoodeNews community for securing me with tenure and a promotion to Associate Professor. osgoode.yorku.ca/news/dean-farr… I have been helped by many. And I have been inspired by the work, courage and spirit of so many. I thank them.

This weekend I will embark on possibly my most ambitious, idiotic travel plan yet: giving toasts at two weddings in 48 hours One wedding is in New Brunswick The other is in British Columbia

@lindsayfg How is biking elitist? It’s also a disaster in most parts of the city, so don’t understand how it gets blamed for everything else being bad?

Toronto transit "options": Walking: sidewalks indiscriminately closed at seemingly every intersection TTC: striking Driving: takes an hour to get from Toronto to Toronto Biking: an elitist option that our current Mayor doesn't seem to realize isn't an option for 90%

In 2019 I interviewed with Elon to join a hardcore Tesla comms team. 1 month in that team was deleted. The next 5 years after that were what I referred to as a “choose your own adventure” job. One where I had to constantly reinvent myself. Tesla is a hard, and sometimes ruthless, place to work. But the thing that makes it special is you will repeatedly be handed massive projects way outside of your comfort zone. For me that translated into an array of opportunities to both lead and follow: web pages, customer comms, social, blogs, Elon’s keynotes, copywriting, program management and eventually ads. I’m proud to say I went in thinking I was one thing, and came out this week realizing I was capable of so much more. Thank you to all the talented folks I worked with over the last few years: design studio creatives (holy crap those folks are good), digital, investor relations, engineering (holy crap those folks are smart), policy, sales and more. Another heartfelt thank you to the folks who more recently took a bet and joined us for the growth team. The next week or two I’m gonna get some nature and put some much needed time into planning my wedding to my lovely fiance. Then I’ll be jumping back in to figure out what’s next. Any cool ideas, lmk!
