When was the last time the two films in a legitimate race for Best Picture both earned more than $200 million at the box office before nominations were announced? 2011 with THE SOCIAL NETWORK and THE KING’S SPEECH? I’m not sure if the latter crossed that threshold ahead of time.

The author cites the usual examples that have nothing to do with NYC, such as entirely rural systems in Washington State. Yes, free fares work OK in rural places and small towns where ridership is so low that fares don't even pay for the costs of fare collection. 2/

@humantransit Feels like you are too dogmatic about this. Silver Line in Boston is free. Has been free. Runs every 10-12 minutes. There are plenty of big city examples where free routes work and work well.
