@AdamArchuleta YES!! Every tackle is situational IMO. We rep “game like situations” for diff. angles. But we do teach “hawk tackling” but emphasize down hill tracking as fast as possible, maintaining leverage and using our shoulders not our head. Might not be for everyone but it works do us.

There are a lot of things I can’t fully share, but I’ll say this… If people really knew the history of this video and the story behind it, they would understand why I question so many things about it. The original premise of what the Seahawks taught was the HAWK tackle—which is essentially shoulder tackling, which is very effective and I 100% believe in. The ROLL tackle is situational at best and more often a result of momentum rather than a conscious movement, but I see that used as THE foundational tackling technique that coaches now use. This video was not made to highlight the foundation principles of good tackling… It was made for other reasons. As a result, coaches across the country focused on and emphasized the wrong things. I know this - if I were a current player and I really wanted to study how to tackle better, I wouldn’t study drills or coaching clinics. I would watch the best, look for patterns, visualize intensely how I can use and incorporate their techniques, and then implement that in practice.
