I honestly can’t see Pope coaching Stokes- just doesn’t feel like a fit from day 1. If Pope survives for long here, it will be signing mature guys who fit his system. His first team was a player or two short, but they weren’t far away. Repeat that team with a transfer stud and maybe you can make a F4. But he won’t do it spending time on the next big HS prospect

Losing to Bill Self on the guy Self wanted most is not really a knock on Mark Pope. Putting your entire Class of 2026 recruiting focus on trying to get the guy Self wanted and everyone told you he would probably get … is a mind-boggling mistake.

@Nati_Sports Exactly. This idea of only drafting up the middle guys mean you pass on corner guys who can hit in lieu of smaller frame guys who can field. So of course you have a lineup full of guys who have little to no power

The Cincinnati Reds haven't produced a quality outfielder in the major leagues in over a decade now. It's starting to get laughingly embarrassing. You can't keep taking shortshops hoping you can turn them into quality OFs. It isn't working.

Hearing that both Mark Pope and John Calipari have privately vented that UK’s fanbase has negatively affected recruiting since 2020. Other schools use the fanbase and the negativity against UK and it has cost multiple elite recruits.

@jmac84_ @kentuckyhoopsig Very true but Cal with the #1 class but not a #1 pick (Wall, Davis, Towns) was not much different than what we have now. CMP has next year to get this fixed so let’s hope he does!

Here’s a crazy thought….why not emphasize swinging at pitches the hitter can actually hit. Being aggressive from the first pitch gets translated into “go up and swing hard at everything” to most young hitters. As a result, they don’t really know what are the good pitches to hit. Most good hitters swing at good pitches to hit- not going up hacking at a FB on the outside corner at the knees.

Common theme of all the best HS hitters I’m seeing is they attack the first pitch almost every AB & get their best swing off on that 0-0 count. If they swing thru it… they dont care. If your coach is telling you to be patient & take the 1st pitch most AB’s… u need a new coach!

Hubert Davis is the Tubby Smith of this era. The man is more than basketball. Players are fortunate to play for someone like him. Both had phenomenal first years but couldn’t replicate it in the following years. Fast forward 15 years and Tubby is beloved among the fanbase…and Hubert will be too.

On the worst day of Hubert Davis’s professional life, he thanked Jesus for the opportunity He gave him. I wonder how many of us would do the same thing if put in his position. The simple truth is that the world would be a better place if it were full of people like Hubert Davis.
