OWU: Conceptually Thinking Basketball Iowa Class 3A State Tournament Player Update March 2, 2026 @coachpershing Quinn Pershing – SO | Mount Vernon Pershing delivered the most explosive scoring performance of the game for Mount Vernon in the 55–44 state tournament victory over Cherokee Washington. The sophomore guard scored 21 points while shooting 6-of-14 from the field and an impressive 6-of-9 from three-point range. Her perimeter shooting created immediate offensive gravity for Mount Vernon. Pershing’s ability to convert multiple three-point attempts stretched the Cherokee Washington defense and opened driving and passing lanes within the Mustangs’ offensive structure. That spacing effect was a central driver of Mount Vernon’s offensive efficiency in the contest. Pershing also converted 3-of-4 free throws and added two rebounds and a steal, providing additional possession value while maintaining offensive pressure. The combination of perimeter volume shooting and accuracy made her the primary scoring catalyst for Mount Vernon throughout the game. Within the Conceptually Thinking Basketball framework, Pershing’s performance represents a high-leverage perimeter scoring archetype—one capable of changing defensive geometry through shooting gravity. Her 21-point output served as the key offensive engine behind Mount Vernon’s advancement in the Class 3A bracket. #OWUEvalDay #ConceptuallyThinking #BuiltDifferent #PlayerTrustNetwork #ScoutingTruths [@PGHBrooks ] [@NXTPROG] [@JrAllStarBB] [] [@IGBRcoverage [@WorldExposureWB] [@_BlakeDerrick] [@WKGameBall] [@EconAdjunct] [@FiveStateHoops] [@OWUTALENT ][@PGHiowa ] [@JrAllStariowa ]

OWU: Talent Projection Iowa State Tournament — Players to Watch Still Alive (March 4) The Iowa Girls State Basketball Tournament has reached the phase where roster depth fades and individual leverage begins to surface. Possessions tighten. Defensive schemes sharpen. Games compress. At that point, tournament trajectories often hinge on players capable of stabilizing systems while simultaneously creating advantage. Across multiple classifications, several Division I–caliber prospects remain active and positioned to influence the final outcomes of the week. In Class 5A, Johnston continues to operate behind one of the most balanced talent clusters in the state. Kelli Kalb and Jenica Lewis function as complementary engines within the Dragons’ structure, combining rebounding pressure, transition creation, and secondary scoring stability. Ari Phillips adds another high-level decision-maker capable of shifting offensive geometry with ball pressure and perimeter spacing. Waukee Northwest counters with one of the state’s most dynamic offensive catalysts in Romey Croatt, whose scoring elasticity and late-clock shot creation allow the Wolves to maintain offensive efficiency when possessions stall. Teammates Sadie McCann, Grace McCann, and Victoria Burpo supply structural balance around Croatt’s production. Dowling Catholic also remains a structural threat with the Mueller trio—Katie, Ellie, and Nikki—alongside Adrian Sears, giving the Maroons multiple ball-handling and scoring options capable of surviving high-possession volatility. In Class 4A, Dallas Center-Grimes continues to deploy Macy Meyers and Ava Smid as primary engines, while Norwalk’s Braylyn Birmingham represents one of the classification’s most impactful perimeter creators. Bishop Heelan’s Melina Snoozy and Trishelle Miller bring shot creation and scoring gravity capable of flipping tournament momentum. Class 3A includes Mount Vernon’s Savannah Wright and Quinn Pershing, whose two-player dynamic has powered the Mustangs’ postseason run. Dubuque Wahlert’s Emily Tanny and Des Moines Christian’s Addie Oechler remain central to their teams’ offensive identity. Smaller classifications also carry Division I signals. Regina’s Addie McLaughlin and Bishop Garrigan’s Graclyn Eastman represent high-level competitors capable of dictating tempo in elimination settings. Newell-Fonda’s Ellie and Quinn Sievers continue to anchor one of the most disciplined small-school programs in the state. March tournaments rarely reward hype. They reward players who process faster, execute cleaner, and maintain composure when possessions shrink. These players remain alive because their games translate under that pressure.
