Our fossil fools picket in New Plymouth today was a great success. We visited four companies involved with oil, gas and coal mining: @Omv, Todd Energy, @BeachEnergyLtd and @ANZAotearoa bank which invests in Bathurst Resources coal mining on the Denniston Plateau near Westport.

So @teradar you're obsessed w these huge snails. Did you know they've been living in a fridge in Reefton for 17 years b/c their only known habitat, Mt Augustus, was removed by the Stockton coal mine. Nowhere else they can live. One of our most endangered species. In a fridge

The climbers on the coal rig respond to Shane Jones' ridiculous claims. But, again, thanks for keeping the media coverage going @mangonui08: it's exactly what the protest needed b/c news of the Pope's death had taken over completely - until you came along! Nice work.

@mangonui08 Here's a reply to your video about us Minister @mangonui08. We all deserve safe, stable jobs that our communities can rely on for decades to come. Yet your government has left workers in the lurch by slashing programs like jobs for nature and health and education programs.

Rest in Peace Pope Francis. “Climate change is a global problem with grave implications: environmental, social, economic, political and for the distribution of goods. It represents one of the principal challenges facing humanity in our day.”

January 2025 was quite unexpectedly the warmest January on record at 1.75C above preindustrial, beating the prior record set in 2024. This is despite the presence of La Niña conditions in the tropical Pacific, with the El Niño event of 2023/2024 long faded.

This is my old flatmate from back in the day, who has lived in Britain for many years, responding to our government's intention to remove the wellbeing provisions from the Local Government Act.

Some people seem to have difficulty getting their heads around what Van Velden is up to. She wants people to work EXTRA hours than they are contracted to work. If they say no. She wants to dock pay from the hours they have already worked, even if the extra hours were to be unpaid
Maxine Gay@GayMaxine

Pay docked for refusing to undertake voluntary work or refusal to work overtime. What a repugnant woman. If you have to work extra hours whenever the boss says, for pay (if you have met your ord hours) or no pay (voluntary), you have no rights. No rights equals slavery

That Cook Strait ferries announcement would have to be the most oversold and underdelivered politics of a wobbly old political year. No costs No ferries, or designs, or actual likely models, sizes, deals Just a new agency, new (old minister) & target date of 2029 - five years

Rod Carr: “There’s not a tree we can now plant that is going to help meet our [2030 Paris target] in New Zealand this decade. If it’s not in the ground now, we’re down to gross emissions reduction or offshore cooperation. That’s it. The window’s closed on tree-planting.”

It’s Halloween, not April Fool - we don’t need some jokey fluff about mining being a good thing - we need people to know that this company want to fasttrack industrial mining in nationallty significant conservation land! With zero public input. Thats the story there! @SevenSharp
