Extremists in Florida are banning books, attempting to erase our history, and intend to teach our students that enslaved people benefited from slavery. It’s outrageous.

Clarence Thomas. You just voted to gut affirmative action and student loan forgiveness. Let’s take a look how you got into Yale, shall we? During your 58-page concurring opinion, you wrote that the foundational policies of affirmative action "fly in the face of our colorblind Constitution and our Nation's equality ideal.” But Justice Thomas, we did a little digging and it turns out that Yale university followed an affirmative action policy at the time you attended its law school. There’s more. In 1991 a New York Times article about you reported that Yale University officials confirmed you were admitted to its law school "under an explicit affirmative action plan with the goal of having blacks and other minority members make up about 10 percent of the entering class." It appears clear from the testimony of Yale officials that your admission to the Yale School of Law was made at the time of affirmative action policies and was almost certainly influenced by it. We should also mention that you secretly accepted $150,000 in tuition payments from rightwing billionaire Harlan Crowe, but you just voted to strike down loan forgiveness for students who need it. There is something absolutely tragic about the fact that the benefits of affirmative action helped create a Justice Thomas who will now deny many young African American talented individuals the same opportunity. Justice Thomas, if you’re so against affirmative action, I suggest you resign from the Bench.

Hey Brett Kavanaugh. Want to talk about affirmative action and student loans? Let’s examine how you got into Yale, shall we? During your Senate testimony, you said “I got into Yale Law School. That’s the No. 1 law school in the country. I had no connections there. I got there by busting my tail in college.” But, like much of your testimony, this wasn’t exactly true. 👇 You see, we found a copy of a 1928 Yale yearbook and it turns out your grandfather Everett Edward Kavanaugh also attended Yale as an undergraduate student. So that makes you a legacy student a liar. So to recap, you got into your grandfather’s alma mater, then went to the Law School. That matters — because admission to an undergraduate institution can more than double a student’s chance of getting into that institution’s graduate schools. In 2011, Yale said that up to 25 percent of its students could classified as legacy students. Turns out, getting into college, especially Ivy League schools, is traditionally as much a matter of who you know as it is what you know. AOC said it best, “If SCOTUS was serious about their ludicrous “colorblindness” claims, they would have abolished legacy admissions, aka affirmative action for the privileged.” But of course you wouldn’t do that. It would mean you’d might have never gotten to the Supreme Court. It would have impacted the 70% of Harvard legacy students who are white - and harmed Harvard’s ability to rely on them as patrons. So how about we also ban legacy admissions and see how people like you fare without the privilege, shall we?

They waited patiently for more than 50 years to stack the courts and turn America back to our darkest days of radical inequality. In just a little more than a year, the compromised and corrupt conservative SCOTUS trashed decades of progress and precedents. They decided that student loan forgiveness during a national emergency was an “overreach”, but PPP Loan forgiveness was not. They decided that leveling the playing field and providing an equal opportunity at a high-quality education for black people and POC was unfair, but legacy admissions was not. They decided that if you call yourself a conservative Christian you can refuse to provide services for same-sex marriages. They decided that they, not women, have the right to decide on their own reproductive health care. The Supreme Court, having divorced itself from the fundamental basis of our legal system, honoring precedent, is now a ruling political party legislating from the bench. Think they’re going to stop here? Elections matter. #BidenHarris2024 #FreshWords

The Supreme Court just struck down affirmative action for public and private universities while maintaining admission preferences for legacies, donors, employee families and special recommendations. This ruling upholds white supremacy. It's an attack on racial justice.

Country singer Dolly Parton wrote the songs "I Will Always Love You" and "Jolene" on the same night. When the first song was at the top of the charts in 1974, Elvis wanted to record his own version of the song. Dolly was interested until Colonel Tom Parker, Elvis' manager, said that it was standard procedure that when the king of rock and roll covered a song - half of the rights to that song would go to him in the future. She refused it. "I said, 'I'm really, really sorry' and cried all night. It was terrible for me, on the one hand, it's Elvis. People told me: "You are crazy." It's Elvis Presley...' but I just couldn't do it. Something told me in my heart not to do it and I didn't. I know he would rock with that song. But I couldn't. And then Whitney Houston came along with her version and I made enough money from the rights to buy Dollywood." She grew up in severe poverty and no one famous has done more for the education of the poor than her. In 1990, the percentage of students who did not graduate from high school in her hometown was over 30%. She introduced the "Buddy Program", where all high school graduates received a nice sum when they graduated. It wasn't just a waste of money, she personally came and explained the concept to them - everyone should find a buddy, and whoever doesn't succeed she will find one for them. Everyone had to sign that they will graduate and do everything in their power to ensure that their buddy also graduates. She taught young people about friendship and helping. The number of school dropouts dropped to below 6% and has remained so until today. When 900 families lost their homes in the 2016 fires, she paid each family $1,000 for the next five months. When she came to the bank to finish the paperwork, she gave each family another $5,000 to find. A total of nine million dollars. Also, her work - Imagination Library from 1995, was inspired by her realization that young people in rural areas and poor families already fall behind when they start school and that this prevents them from pursuing higher education. The goal of her program was for every child in her district to receive one book, once a month, from birth to school, completely free of charge, without any conditions. It started as an initiative in her hometown and has spread to a huge number of countries around the world. By 2018, over 100 million books were distributed in this way. She is also known for her witty statements, at the beginning of her career she said: “I'm not offended by jokes about stupid blondes because I know I'm not stupid... and I'm not really blonde either.”

There was a little coffee shop where two people arrived and approached the counter. “Five coffees ☕️ please. Two for us and three pending.” They paid, they took their two coffees and left. I asked the waiter. "What’s this about pending coffees?" “Wait and you'll see." Some more people came in. Two girls asked for a coffee each, they paid and left. The following order was for seven coffees and it was made by three women - Three for them and four pending coffees. I was left wondering...what is the meaning of the pending coffees, they leave. Then, a man dressed in worn clothes, who looks like he might be homeless, arrives at the counter and asks sincerely... “Do you have a coffee pending?” “Yes we do, sir.” They serve him a coffee.... I got my answer. People pay in advance for a coffee that will be served to whoever can't afford a hot drink. This tradition started in Naples. Amazingly, it has spread throughout the world’s cities and towns. It’s also possible to order not only “pending coffees” but also a sandwich or a full low cost meal. Wouldn’t it be great if we could all start doing this in the cities and towns where we live? Small kindnesses like this can impact so many lives, in ways we could never imagine. Maybe we should all try it. 😊❤️🌹

Labor shortage? No. There's a shortage of jobs that pay enough to live. There's a shortage of jobs that give you healthcare. There's a shortage of jobs that let you plan for retirement, or even past this week. Care for workers, and you’ll get your labor.
