Today I presented my Debt Relief (Developing Countries) Bill which would: ✅Compel private creditors to accept the same terms as other lenders. ✅Reduce the burden of debt for the poorest countries. ✅Cost the Treasury absolutely nothing. The time to act is now. #DebtJustice

Saw a few people disappointed that the word 'climate' didn't appear once in the Chancellor's speech yesterday. More alarming is it still wasn't mentioned in the *FIVE HOURS* of parliamentary debate following the speech.

The thing about "the UK’s tax burden is now at a record high", is that this is also true for almost all countries 📈

African Countries spent more than 50 times more on external debt than they received in aid from the UK, and most of this debt is owed to private creditors governed by UK law. We can pass relief without costing the taxpayer a penny, we just need the will to do it.

Thanks to @AnnelieseDodds and all the other MPs who joined us yesterday to talk about how we can advance debt relief for the 32 African countries who spend more on repayments than healthcare. Particular shout-out to @SamJRushworth for hosting the event and his support!

In light of outdoor smoking bans - a reminder that a worrying proportion of the public (my generation particularly) favoured bringing back lockdown only 9 months ago. Nearly 1/3 millennials thought people should only leave their house for an hour a day! In December last year!

Millennials are the most likely to back restrictions. A third of millennials back closing night clubs, and three in ten back re-introducing the rule of six.

- climate change is largely absent from this general election so far - and yet the UK had its warmest May and meteorological spring on record according to provisional Met Office figures published today

With interest rates spiraling, most African countries spend more on debt servicing every year than they do on education and health. Many of the creditors are governed under UK law - we need legislation urgently to tackle this debt crisis. independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi…

Great to attend the @christian_aid report launch ‘Between Life and Debt’ , as part of Christian Aid Week. The debt crisis in 5 African countries under English Law are preventing the countries investing in health, education & climate resilience. We need urgent action #debtjustice
