love all trans hcs down but i'm not a fan of the "jokey" way ppl have started framing louis as a transphobe who misgenders lestat or is tryna keep lestat from transitioning. it plays into racist stereotypes of black ppl as more queerphobic and conservative than nonblack ppl

@ih8von i think folks forget that plenty of queer men who are comfortable as men still use "girl" "she/her" for themselves and each other and no one on the show so far, not even gabriella, has been confirmed as a textually trans character. it's just wild to jump to transphobia like that

if we're going into explicitly trans hcs there's a great opportunity to highlight the influence the queer scene in 1910s nola- one of the roots of ball culture as we know it today!!- would've shaped louis' understanding of transness instead of "louis took away lestat's estrogen"

and both of them have feminine/flamboyant mannerisms and influences from queer icons like david bowie- louis was also partly influenced by black fem icons like grace jones and eartha kitt. it's great if you hc lestat as transfem but why frame louis as opposed to that in any way??

@F1SH_SPEAKER extremely true like the fundamental issue is that these racist stereotypes are attached to the characters themselves by the audience's racist biases and we see them regardless of which ship configurations they're in, with white folks doing the most to stereotype/reduce them

@coldeveryseason to be fair ppl will always have shitty antiblack and orientalist takes in any ship that involves louis and armand, loustat and dm being the biggest offenders bc it always benefits their white counterpart plus theyre the most popular (bc theres a white person involved)

s3 could do really interesting things with lestat and gabriella potentially speaking italian in their home, insulated from lestat's dad and brothers, as a parallel to louis and claudia communicating telepathically knowing lestat can't hear them. private language as shelter etc
