Recording ads and VSL's in 16 degree weather is not for the faint of heart. It's also always a win knowing "my competition wouldn't do this" P.s. probably not the most "blue-collar" thing to wear nikes on a roof (@rampulla_andrew one day i'll get paws)

Last night we had our team photos for our Lighting & Gutter cleaning brand. It was the first time in my career that I was able to take a full team out to dinner in person. Everything I've done has been online, and at most with 1-2 people in person. Seeing your team smile, laugh, and break bread together is a small but cool box to check off.

In December of last year I told my wife she was officially “work optional.” She could retire from her career as an engineer whenever she wanted. This was a baffling idea to her at the time and she decided to go part-time for a while instead. Two weeks ago she took me up on that offer and today we celebrated her last day of work the same way she celebrated her last day of school for her entire childhood… getting tossed in the pool with all of her clothes on. I am forever indebted to her for the faith and support that she has given me for the last 8 years and this moment might be the proudest of my life. To my wife Emily, I love you forever and I am beyond excited for our next chapter together. You deserve the world and more. I made $294,000 in 2 months hanging Christmas lights this season. The craziest part? You can start with $500 and clear six figures your first year. I made $48k season one (while full-time in college). Here’s exactly how I’d do it again:

Picked up a Van for the Lighting & the Gutter cleaning businesses yesterday. - Shorter Van so it's easier to load & unload ladders - Unwrapped until one of the brands is at the capacity to warrant its own vehicle and wrap

Started our Christmas Light removals today (2 today). Both are excited to have us complete an install for them next year and we did a landscape lighting job for the other today. Christmas Light customers give you HUGE opportunity to upsell into Gutter Cleaning, Landscape Lights, Perm Lights, or simply renewing for next year.

I'm about to record my first VSL on a roof - yes, VSLs can be used for Home Service businesses.

Brought on a videographer to help document the growth of the Home Service businesses. Aside from the benefits of posting, it's incredible to look back on the memories you built in your 20s and watch them in 4k.

My second location's office for permanent lights starts January 1, 2026! We were able to do well with the small area in VA this winter, but expanding into a wealthier, more populated city is where things can really get crazy. Who else is running Perm Lights year-round?

@rampulla_andrew I'd be cautious putting people in bad spots over the holidays - they're most fragile and dependent.

The original offer letter we sent to my office manager said the season extended through January 15. Although, there is just about nothing left for her to do and I can very easily take over her role with <1hr/day. I hate burning $1,000/week on unneeded payroll, but also don't want to put her in a bad spot. Thoughts?

The smallest things you do are the difference maker in whether you are good or if you're great. In Christmas Lighting, we've found its columns. For customers - if they're not done exactly right, it isn't enough for them to text you in frustration, but it's enough to think "ah, well, they're just not that good" and use someone new next year. That small difference in how you wrap Christmas Light columns can be the difference between someone staying for 1 year vs. upgrading to a $3,000+ landscaping lighting package. The difference is about 10 minutes.
