@LouisvillesKev I’m a teacher at Holy Cross and the Principal did not say students would get demerits for being too rowdy. Just the opposite. End of school announcements asked students to show up in force and show support.

@sage_stage @WilySnowPena Good for you. That’s what your other colleague, who demanded “consequences” should have done as well.

Here's some irony. My last class is virtual. Halfway through the period I have to run and grab something from my office. A student I know is sitting in the stairwell, I tell her to get to class and she says she will. Then I see her again later so I snitch on her to her teacher.

@sage_stage @itsdesserts @largescience Why didn’t you let her do it? Your school sounds like the one I left. I’m in a better place now and I’m grateful. Good luck. Life is too short to work at place with colleagues like that; I’ll take challenging kids over shitty peers every time.

@itsdesserts @largescience And when I balked she did say she would do the consequence herself but in a "fine! If you aren't going to do it, I will" way

I almost never get into tiffs with other teachers. But today I did. Another teacher discovered one of my students skipping class and brought her to my room and told me to assign her a consequence. I said "what consequences do we have?" And it only went downhill from there

@sage_stage @ItsAMrY I wish more people took your approach Sage. The extreme partisan left is just as dangerous to our democracy as a radical Trump supporter. The move to remove Trump from the ballot is undemocratic and very myopic. Better that he loses at the polls.

@ItsAMrY I tend to play to the middle, which doesn't win you many friends, but people who are hyper partisan either way, especially when they have a group of support, just aren't very likely to accept or acknowledge mistakes or possible unintended consequences that are predictable

I have no intention for voting for Trump, and frankly I'm shocked that he's this competitive in 2024, but I also can't believe that people can't see that kicking him off the ballot is also a bad idea that could backfire spectacularly and is not a good precedent

@sage_stage @jasonflum Absolutely agree with you @sage_stage. Those who are supporting the move to remove Trump from the ballot are strengthening his support. He must be convicted, by a jury, of insurrection before he is removed. If not, let the American people decide on election day.

@jasonflum I would say he has to be put on trial and convicted before taking this step. "Everybody saw it" just isn't going to fly with his supporters and those who aren't already hard-core democrats. And even if correct, this will be used against everyone from now on.

@soldierreader We did a “staycation” and spent Saturday and of Sunday in downtown Louisville and it’s gotten better but still needs work. Parts are flat out disgusting.

Two weeks ago myself and another teacher broke up a fight in the hallway. By most accounts, it was the first altercation of this kind at my school. After counseling, the student was involved in two similar incidents. He’s no longer at our school. I love where I teach.

Friday’s are always great as a teacher, but it’s especially so for me at Holy Cross High School because it’s not only Spirit Day (No Tie!) but I get a full day of planning because all my Sophomore students are in STREAM (Leadership Academy).

@bluestein They should fire the Principal and AP for not doing their job of providing oversight of the curriculum.

The school board in suburban Cobb County voted along party lines tonight to fire a teacher who read her fifth grade students “My Shadow is Purple,” a book that challenged gender norms. #gapol ajc.com/education/cobb…

@EmilieMcKiernan I think the elephant in the room is why everyone in JCPS is giving Polio and the Board a pass for gross negligence and endangering the safety of children. Who would want to drive a bus under the current conditions and insufficient pay?

@DatBeachBoy @Villesportslaw @captainKAC Maybe it’s my military experience but you ideally rehearse with the equipment you’re going to use during the operation. Driving traffic in a bus is different than driving it in a Honda Civic.

JCPS transportation must be doing “mental reps” this morning. Been all over this county this morning. Haven’t seen one bus practicing a route yet. From Fern Creek, to Okolona, to Portland, to Old Louisville. I didn’t pass one. Wednesday gonna be interesting.

@EmilieMcKiernan I agree. There is too much at risk, specifically the safety of our kids, to hope JCPS fails. However, to give Polio a pass on his lack of leadership is equally egregious. We need to hold him and the board accountable for not doing their due diligence and putting children at risk.

Louisville has the eighth highest taxes in the nation, & a majority goes to JCPS. Now, I don’t know the answer to the problems… I do know JCPS has a few hundred employees making six figures - with admin making upward $200K. That’s a lot of money for a lot of incompetence.
JCPS@JCPSKY

🚨NO SCHOOL | Due to yesterday’s transportation issues, JCPS will not have school Thursday, Aug. 10 or Friday, Aug. 11. We will use the next four days to fix issues associated with the new transportation plan in order to ensure the safety and well-being of our students & staff.

@Rozegod13 @KHVideo @WDRBNews And I teach at a private school for $20K less than what I made at JCPS and love it because all of our staff and teachers at our institution are there to teach because it’s a calling and not a job.
