The Supreme Court is not really a court in the sense that arguments are considered on their merits and verdicts thereby rendered about constitutionality. It's actually the third and highest legislature in a tricameral system, a kind of house of Lords with lifetime peers, partisan and activist legislators jockeying to implement the societal vision of their parties, where perfectly sound legislation is often voted down and insane policy is invented out of whole cloth and imposed upon all without any higher appeal. Sometimes it passes legislation I like, and that makes me happy, but let's not pretend this thing works at all like it was intended or that it has any legitimacy whatsoever. Like the official Congress, it's broken beyond repair and it's continued existence is a constant affront to the legacy of our founders.
