In the 1970s, several species of Asian carp were brought in as foreign workers to do the low-skill, labor-intensive jobs that native fish supposedly couldn’t handle at scale. The carp performed the task efficiently at first, and their population size remained relatively contained. Over time, the carp escaped into the broader ecosystem. Their numbers exploded. They consumed the resources the native species depended on, outcompeted local populations, and turned the environment into a chaotic and dangerous mess for all involved. For decades the official response was to throw hundreds of millions of dollars at the problem. Nothing worked. The invaders kept spreading anyway. The carp had anchored themselves through mass reproduction. Turns out the real solution was already swimming in the same waters. Strong native predators like the blue catfish began devouring the invaders whole. These were the all American fish who had been held back and kept down for years. Once they were allowed to operate at full strength, they controlled the explosion naturally and at no extra cost to the system. The expensive interventions mostly failed. The natives who were built for this kind of competition succeeded. The solution was to allow the native fish to do what they had been built to do all along: defend their homes and offspring with all the ferocity of a mother grizzly. I hope you enjoyed this story that is only about fish.

I had high hopes for Wes Huff. I thought he could be the official apologist for the bro revival, and I was hopeful he could succeed where so many others had failed (Keller, Ortlund, etc.). Unfortunately, Huff seems too naïve and/or compromised to be of any use to our movement.
Wes Huff@WesleyLHuff

So much noise online regarding the term "judeo-Christian." Guys -- in academia it's simply the term that describes the combined corpus of Old and New Testaments. The Jewish heritage of the Hebrew scriptures combined with the New Testament. That's it. I know you want there to be some conspiracy but there isnt, that's the way we're using it. It has nothing to do with geo-politics or a one world order.

When did pastors turn into the Gestapo? Imagine you’re a pastor and get the, “I heard you have church members who peacefully assemble and walk in a coordinated fashion to petition the government for a redress of grievances in accordance to their self interests. IS THIS TRUE?” phone call from Pastor Skinny Jeans McLimp-Wrists down the street. “IS IT TRUE you’re harboring young white men who are concerned about their demographic decline and replacement, low fertility rates, and loss of their cultural and national heritage? And you serve them COMMUNION and EVERYTHING?” Imagine a pastor getting a letter from a group of meddling busy-bodies like Gabe, “Your local municipal ministerium is seeking clarity as to whether or not you denounce the phrase, ‘American by blood’ or if you are, in fact, a Nazi.” “Are you now or have you ever been the pastor of a member of any group with an unfavorable rating by the Southern Poverty Law Center?” This type of ecclesiastical inquisitor has apparently no curiosity as to *why* young white men feel the need to unionize for their self-interests. He’s never thought, “Why are they doing that?” Because if they thought about it for a full ten minutes they’d figure out why trying ostracize them from the church, root them out of the Body of Christ, and punish them with a Christless, loveless, punitive “discipline” process is exactly why they feel the need to circle their wagons to begin with. They feel pressed on all sides and Reverend Wags-a-Finger thinks a good idea to hunt them down at church? The masks protect them from both ANTIFA and Bishop Busybody all at once, I guess. Pastors must protect their church members from other pastors who, discontent with the drama in their own congregation, set about to “purify” others,’ making sure no unauthorized opinion condemned by the ADL might be found without using the sacred act of righteous discipline as an optics control mechanism. Lesson: When you go look to find a congregation, after determining their doctrinal beliefs are sound, your next question should be: “Do you believe the Bible bestows you with the managerial control over the conscience of your congregants, or that discipline is a tool to ensure uniformity of opinion on cultural or political issues unrelated to your Confession of Faith?” If so, that’s not a pastor concerned with “purity.” That’s an overbearing cult leader with too much time on his hands, a shepherd who would sell out his sheep to the shearers for a high-five in social media.

@DefiantBaptist Interestingly, the term “Judeo-Christian” more often referred to an ethnic Jew that converted to a Christianity in the 1800’s, which is not at all the sense in which Wes defended. So, it appears John Dickerson is ignorant in more ways than one.

The one thing that troubles me about this clip is that it notes distinctions among different kinds of fish. There is one fish, the fishy fish!

@DefiantBaptist This is probably one of the most astute observations about Wes. It’s not that he’s not JQ’d, but he’s just not equipped to be anything but an effeminate agreeable man, in a generation saturated with effeminate agreeable men.

Academia is not the real world. Wes (and you) would do well to realize that.
Mark Dodd@mark_dodd

@DefiantBaptist This is exactly what's wrong with so much online discourse. Huff made an argument about the academic use of a term. Rather than explaining why he's wrong, you declare him 'naïve,' 'compromised,' and 'of no use to our movement.' That's not engaging ideas—it's enforcing tribalism.

@TerriGreenUSA Wes is willing to go on any large platform. That's not a problem per se, but it can tempt you to compromise in order to avoid burning bridges. Brand is a complete mess. He should not, as a brand new Christian (if indeed he is), be teaching.

@DefiantBaptist Wes Huff makes the comment that the disciples were “Duh ciples.” Brand says he was introduced to a sort of a psychedelic Christ, and it is sort of a psychedelic Christ that he’s been reintroduced to. Brand is allowed to ramble and he’s not corrected one time.
