UPDATE on this morning's double fatal crash in north Minneapolis. Minneapolis Police are investigating a tragic car crash that injured three people and killed two. December 16, 2024, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said today that the Minneapolis Police Department responded to a fatal, two vehicle crash at Emerson Av N and 26th Av N. Preliminary information indicates that a vehicle traveling northbound on Emerson Av N collided with a vehicle traveling east on 26th Av N at approximately 10:21 a.m.  The vehicle traveling east on 26th veered off the road and into a bus shelter where it struck a 17-year-old boy. The vehicle traveling east on 26th Ave N was occupied by two women.  One woman died at the scene.  The other woman had to be extricated from the vehicle by Minneapolis Fire and was transported to North Memorial Healthcare Hospital where she later died. The vehicle traveling on Emerson was occupied by a man and a woman, who were transported to a hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries. The 17-year-old boy waiting for a bus to school was transported to a Hennepin Healthcare Hospital with apparent non-life-threatening injuries. Forensic Scientists with the MPD Forensic Unit and an investigator with the MPD Traffic Investigations responded to process the scene and collect evidence. The cause of the crash is under investigation.  There have been no arrests.  The GO# for this incident is 24-356250. “This is a terrible crash that has impacted multiple families, said Chief O’Hara.  "It's heartbreaking and tragic that two people were killed and three others were injured in the blink of an eye.  While the cause of this crash is still under investigation, I want to emphasize the importance for every driver to drive at safe speeds and say hyper focused and engaged while operating a motor vehicle.” Speed is a likely a contributing factor in this crash.
