when The Artful Escape came out I knew it’d be perfect for my wife: music lover, feel-good stories, not a hardcore gamer. she finished it in two evenings and immediately started again. I already got her Mixtape.
gamers need to grow up and understand that the medium has gone a long way. a good game isn’t just reflexes and lose conditions.

@jsnino2003 @catb0mb I’m pretty sure most people are playing in gamepass or pirated it. While $20 for 3 hours of interactive story is reasonable, it’s hard to swallow for a lot of people.
100x is kind of just the ratio for anything online.

if a fraction of the people defending the garbage actually played it the count would be way higher

Great commentary on the game MIXTAPE being something you might not relate to, but can still find a connection to because of media consumption.
This makes me consider the power of how shared media used to work. How many White kids who grew up in the 90s/2000s might be able to connect to a few "Black" references because they watched Fresh Prince, Everybody Hates Chris, or Moesha for example?
There used to be a really big cultural exchange of everyday life that used to happen on TV shows. I wonder if that can even be replicated now that kids don't watch sitcoms...?

the fail state for me is how the scene doesn't hit or simply isn't cool if I fuck it up, the fact I didn't encounter any "fail states" on my run of this during my playthrough was what made it such a highlight. gamers in 2026 simply hate whimsy and that's fine but just say so.

I have never seen more outrage about a small indie game that Mixtape is getting in a long ass time. Like some people are acting like this game killed their family or something and that it doesn’t deserve to exist. I don’t really get it tbh, like you don’t HAVE to buy the game?

i think the reason nostalgia baiting the 70s-90s seems boring to me is because it’s almost always exclusively the white middle class suburban experience.

Mixtape is a truly special game, like a playable High Fidelity or maybe a 90s John Hughes movie. Still thinking about it days later. Also you can blow things up by flipping them off -Go play it! (It’s on Game Pass, too)
