(4/4) Our work is inspired by the recent progress of LLMs in solving math problems (e.g., GSM8k, MATH) and their capabilities in character simulation (e.g., Stanford’s Smallville @joon_s_pk). But more needs to be done for the system to be safely deployed to middle-school kids and effectively enhance their learning – we are lucky to work with our collaborators from Mathematics Education and HCI to further extend the research! Our system was built using @GentopiaAI, an open-source library for augmented LLM agent implementation. We have found it very easy to be adapted to our application! (1/4) We have been wondering how the promise of LLM-powered Multi-Agents/Characters can benefit critical domains such as Education. Here we present 🚀MathVC🚀, a “virtual classroom” featuring multiple 🤖LLM-simulated student characters🤖 discussing and collaboratively solving math problems with human students, aiming to provide them another venue to practice their math modeling skills. The current system targets middle-school education. Technically, we discussed and explored two alignment problems, i.e., characteristics alignment and conversational procedural alignment, in order for the simulation to be authentic. See🧵for details. We are excited to collaborate with experts from HCI (Janice Yixuan Zhang) and Math Education (Jenn Suh @completemath).
