While this debate proceeds, we have an author we doesn't write in English, has lived in India all his life, whose works are steadily being picked up by major publishers in the US. It is a phenomenon that flies against all received wisdom about publishing, yet has gone unnoticed.

@equanimus Tourist family was too “convenient” for me. But held together by performances. This one the aesthetic is almost “TV movie”. But I’m a big Anaswara Rajan fan. The hostel sections with her are essentially a Super Saranya rip off. Familiar and reassuring.

@Wazzaronair You’re laughing at the absurdity but it draws a stark portrait of a village (stand in for a country) that is hyper polarized. The innocents are either labeled crazy or trampled underfoot. Ultimately those with any sense of self preservation have no choice but to leave.
