one thing i’m genuinely grateful for lately is seeing people trust the quality of my work before results even drop. opening comments and seeing: “cj probably got this” “he’s definitely winning” “this has his name written all over it” still feels surreal sometimes not even just because of the wins, even on projects i’ve contributed to, getting positive feedback from teams and people around the work has been really encouraging because it shows the consistency, growth and improvements are becoming visible to people too. i don’t win everything, and i still have misses here and there but one thing i always try to do is make sure that whenever i put my name on something, the quality speaks for itself seeing that trust build in real time has honestly been one of the coolest parts of the journey ↓

Around late 2022, my brother called us from Dubai sounding genuinely terrified. At first, we thought maybe he had issues at work, but then he started explaining what happened earlier that day. He had gone to buy a few things after work and tried paying with his Nigerian naira debit card like he normally would. The payment failed. He kept on trying but it was saying “Declined”, he thought it was probably network issues. But the cashier suddenly became aggressive because people were waiting behind him and the transaction kept failing repeatedly. Then the seller shouted at him: “What is this? If you don’t have money, don’t buy anything!” My brother kept trying to explain that the money was actually inside his Nigerian bank account. The problem wasn’t insufficient funds. The problem was that Nigerian banks had started restricting international transactions on naira cards because of the country’s worsening FX crisis. At that time, several banks across Nigeria were already suspending or limiting international card usage due to dollar liquidity shortages. So even though people still had money locally, their cards suddenly stopped working properly for global payments. And if you remember that 2022–2023 period well, this wasn’t just one bank. The restrictions gradually spread across multiple major Nigerian banks. International subscriptions started failing, foreign POS transactions stopped working and online purchases became difficult. Travelers abroad suddenly found themselves stranded in situations they never expected. That’s why my brother’s story stayed with me, because the scary part wasn’t that he lacked money The scary part was realizing that modern life depends heavily on access to international payment rails, and once FX pressure hits hard enough, that access can disappear overnight. Luckily for him, one of his co-workers walked into the store at the perfect time and paid on his behalf before the situation escalated further. But that moment exposed something bigger: Traditional bank cards are often far more dependent on local economic conditions than most people realize.
