Visa fees should be after visas have been approved, or at least refund the payment upon rejection. It's only right. If you don't want someone in your country, DON'T TAKE THEIR MONEY.

The platforms they use to vet applicants are funded by their national budgets, as they are part of national security apparatus. The fees they charge are not equivalent to the activities they conduct.

@EkeneAninze @DanielRegha Almost $200 for making a decision? What's so sophisticated about making a visa decision? Japan charges less than $30 for their visa, SK $40. It should tell you everything to do with the real visa processing costs.

It feels unfair, but I think they don't look at the fee as payment for approval, rather, they look at it as payment for the decision to be made. To them, what you’re really paying for is the process: the scrutiny, the verification, the time spent deciding whether you qualify or not. They look at it that even if the outcome is a “no,” the work still happened afterall.

She locked their passports in her office and not even a single person at South African high commission, in Kampala can do anything. Her office was locked yesterday and locked today, some of the passports holders were meant to travel for 2 oceans marathons, paid tickets, accommodations and the high commission in Kampala says they don’t know where she is. I applied for a Canadian visa. I paid less than $130, and they gave me 8+ years. While the UK wants me to pay $175 for 6 months…. naaaa, not visiting the UK anytime soon.

The flight booking and accommodation booking also helps them see if the funds in your accounts can support your cost of living during their visits.

The Japanese embassy is probably the only civilized embassy in the world. You pay for your visa after it’s approved. That abbreviation country could never🫠
