No doubt they did that too but there are so many instances where they have players pinned back or distracted at the other side and so many Kerry scores come directly from those shapes. A lot of it was how well Kerry made sure to engage all Donegal defenders (I do think that's the biggest factor of it)

@ConanDoherty If you go back and look at behind the goal footage from the All Ireland final last year and look at the last play of the first half, Donegal did the exact same as yesterday. Left a free man in the full forward line and pushed another man out to the arc.

Armagh took over 3 minutes off the clock to get the last score. Donegal had 1 minute to go & we knew it was over. I wasn’t joking when I said this last summer. The middle section of the pitch is just so massive and the field plays so fast that it gives almost no incentive to the defensive team to squeeze out. Croke Park has not served the game well in the new rules

I think for 2026 they should shave 5 yards off each end of Croke Park and bring the sidelines in at least the same. Tighten the thing up a wee bit. It probably was too difficult in the All-Ireland series for defences to get meaningful contact on

You definitely can't replicate that environment but you can still practice, and the more automatic it is, surely that would help?
A LOT of frees/kicks are expected to be scored MORE than 85% of the time - a rough comparison of penalty success (and that's not by the 4th and 5th takers)

The difference is the entire country is depending on you, you can’t practice for the emotion and nerves of that.

Different sports but rugby and GAA free takers/kickers are expected to score - I'd say more so than a penalty. Would be mad not to practice

If Ireland do qualify, they will become a case study in the power of positive energy. I don’t think it’s impossible for a country to qualify through sheer force of will and excitement. If you simply refuse to countenance the idea of losing, does losing become less likely?
