Let's see if I can fit Houston into a whole tweet: The Rockets went into the tax trying to win this year's title. Then FVV got hurt. I think there's chance they trade FVV for someone making like $18 million both to help this year's team AND delay their repeater clock a year. First graf is the 280-character version people will see without expanding on the TL. Cool. Now we go a bit deeper. I think the Rockets were entirely justified in going into the tax this year because KD opened the window. But now that Fred's hurt, I'm not sure the Rockets can justify both keeping him this year AND staying in the tax given the long-term ramifications. They're going to be paying the tax for a long, long time. Delaying the repeater clock really matters to them. So I could see them trading Fred in a move that's publicly presented as helping this year's team. "We needed one more piece and we got it for someone who couldn't play this year!" when it actuality, it has as much to do with maximizing, like, the 2031 team as it does this year's. Their other path to ducking the tax would be dumping Capela. That's an interesting case. You signed him primarily to keep Steven Adams fresh over the 82-game grind. He's done that. Would you be willing to cash him out now that his primary task for this year is mostly done? I think the answer is no, and that's less of a basketball concern and more of a relationship one. He did you a solid by returning for a discount. You burn the agent bridge if you dump him this soon. So really, I think it comes back to FVV. Keep him and you're probably paying the tax this year while likely not getting the on-court benefit his $25 million salary provides. Trade him and you both improve this year and potentially delay the repeater clock, but you lose whatever his locker room value is and whatever on-court value he'd generate next year. I'd lean towards trading him. I'm not sure what they'll do. I hope the four people who expand the tweet enjoy that wall of text.

The real repeater test cases are still several years away. OKC is the biggest but they haven’t even started their tax clock. Houston is another interesting one that’s too complicated to cover in half a tweet. But this will be a major topic in a few years.

the coyote lives a cursed existence. the laws of time and space will bend, even break, so that he always fails. It is as if every speck of his universe— even God himself, conspires against him. He is trapped like a fly in amber within an infinitude of defeat. And we laugh…

@RedNinetyFour Do you think Sengun + Cam + Brooks + picks for Giannis would get it done? Would hate to trade Senguin but Ime's preference is switchable everything a closing lineup of Amen-Green-Tari-Giannis-Bari is perfect on paper.

People surprised by this were obviously missing out on the Instagram algorithm of millennial husbands being forced into homesteading and sourdough making. My wife has personally requested a farm animal as a pet no less than 50 times this year.
