@BuckeyeLandon @1014Hoff I see it this way 125 Kilkeary 133 Davino 141 Bouzakis 149 Shaw/Stiles/Kane Brown 157 Cannon/Stiles 165 Cannon/Bird/ Transfer 174 Bird/Transfer 184 Fishback 197 Geog 285 Feldman Bouzakis is not making 25 again. And cannon is too small for 165 imo.

@1014Hoff Yeah I would definitely be on board with brown starting. Bouzakis Davino Brown Shaw Stiles Cannon Birden Fishback Geog Feldman Would definitely be a nice lineup. I think Bouzakis was hurt more by injury than Weight cut at nationals. I think 5-8 range is likely for the team

Ohio state get active in the portal dude. I genuinely have no idea what direction Tom Ryan is going to be going in next year. I don’t think we’ll land any meaningful transfers. Bouzakis at 141? Stiles Cannon Birden all up a weight? We’ll have to see.

Every year since 2013 (except 2021 and 2022) the season started with a 2x champ looking to become a 3x champ and failing to do so. Let that sink in. What happened to Jesse Mendez this year has happened 12 of last 14 years with 16 missed opportunities! Since 2000, we have had more fail then succeed at this. Shocking ! Is this a Dan Gable curse? Mitchell Mesenbrink will look to become the NCAAs 50th 3x champ next season. 2026: 2xer Jesse Mendez (Ohio St) loses in the NCAA finals to true Freshman Sergio Vega (Okla St) 4-1 SV. Mendez ends career going 5-1-1-2 2025: 2xer Gable Steveson (Minn) loses in the NCAA finals to Wyatt Hendrickson (Okla St) 5-4. Gable ends career going 3-1-1-2 2025: 2xer Keegan O’Toole (Mizzou) loses in the NCAA finals to Dean Hamiti (Okla St) 4-1 SV. O’Toole ends career going 3-1-1-3-2 2024: 2xer Keegan O’Toole(Mizzou) loses to David Carr (Iowa St) 8-6 in the NCAA semis. O’Toole would have one year left in 2025. 2023: 2xer Roman Bravo Young (Penn St) loses in the NCAA finals to Vito Arujau (Cornell) 10-4. RBY ends career going 8-1–1-2 2020: 2xer Zahid Valencia (Ariz St) is 18-0 and ranked #1 as 2x defending champ. He got suspended before conferences ending career going 3-1-1 2020: 2xer Vincenzo Joseph (Penn St) is 15-1 as he loses to Marinelli (Iowa) 3-2 at Big Tens, but also had a 7-5 win over Marinelli in the dual. Covid cancels NCAAs. Joseph career ends going 1-1-2. 2019: 2xer Vincenzo Joseph (Penn St) loses to freshman Mekhi Lewis (Va tech) 7-1 in the NCAA finals. Joseph has one year left in 2020, so he thought. 2018: 2xer Dean Heil (Okla St) loses to True Freshman Yianni Diakomihalis (Cornell) in the NCAA Quarterfinals 5-4. Heil would then lose to Freshman Chad Red (Neb) in blood round and DNP: Heil would end career going 4-1-1-R12 2018: 2xer Isaiah Martinez (Illinois) loses in the NCAA finals to Vincenzo Joseph (Penn St) 6-1. I-Mar was 3-0 vs Joseph outside of NCAAs where he was 0-2. I-Mar ends career going 1-1-2-2. 2017: 2xer Isaiah Martinez (Illinois) loses in the NCAA finals to freshman Vincenzo Joseph (Penn St) by fall 5:26. I-Mar would have one year left. 2017: 2xer Gabe Dean (Cornell) loses in the NCAA finals to Bo Nickal (Penn St) 4-3. Dean ends career going 3-1-1-2 2016: 2xer Nick Gwaizdowski (NC State) loses in NCAA finals to Kyle Snyder (Ohio St) 7-5 SV. Gwiz would end career going 8-1-1-2 2015: 2xer Jesse Delgado (Illinois) loses in Rd of 32 to David Terao (American) 4-2. Next match Delgado would inj out and DNP. Delgado ends career going 7-1-1-DNP. 2014: 2xer Anthony Nelson (Minn) loses in the NCAA finals to Nick Gwaizdowski (NC State) 4-2. Nelson ends career going 7-1-1-2. 2013: 2xer Matt McDonough (Iowa) loses in the NCAA quarterfinals to Freshman Nahshon Garrett (Cornell) 4-2 SV. McDonough would then lose to Sprenkle (SDSU) 3-1 SV and DNP. McDonough ended career going 1-2-1-DNP. Other times since 2000… 2007 2xer Johnny Hendricks (Okla St) losing in NCAA finals to Mark Perry (Iowa) 4-3. Hendricks ends career 5-1-1-2. 2006 : 2xer Teyon Ware (Okla) loses in NCAA finals to Nate Gallick (Iowa St) 3-2. Ware ends career going 1-6-1-2 2004 Johnny Thompson (Okla St) loses in NCAA Quarterfinals to Josh Moore (Penn St) 8-7. He wrestled back for 3rd ending career going 2-1-1-3. So who since 2000 has succeeded? Yianni Diakomihalis (Cornell) 4xer Kyle Dake (Cornell) 4xer Aaron Brooks (Penn St) 4xer Carter Starocci (Penn St) 5xer Logan Stieber (Ohio St ) 4xer Cael Sanderson (Iowa St) 4xer ** Pat Smith pre 2000 Spencer Lee (Iowa) 1-1-1-6 Bo Nickal (Penn St) 2-1-1-1 Jason Nolf (Penn St) 2-1-1-1 Zain Retherford (Penn St) 5-1-1-1 Kyle Snyder (Ohio St) 3-1-1-1 Jden Cox (Mizzou) 1-5-1-1 Alex Dieringer (Okla St) 3-1-1-1 Ed Ruth (Penn St) 3-1-1-1 Jake Rosholt (Okla St) 3-1-1-1 Greg Jones (W. @BrianSwaw @keepmoremoney Or kids might start doing what Zach Ryder did his senior year. (1st to come to mind) Moving closer to the college they’ve committed to and training at RTC practices or with top clubs. Just my thoughts on the situation now

The issue is much more complex than it may initially appear. College coaches often receive last-minute calls on a Friday or Saturday, informing them that a group will be coming to train. This short notice forces coaches to scramble to adjust their plans and find athletes for the visitors to practice with. In some cases, these groups simply arrive after regular practice hours, requiring coaches and wrestlers to stay late. If the coaches do not accommodate these unexpected visits, the groups may threaten to go elsewhere and voice their complaints on social media. They often engage in a comparison game, suggesting that other programs are doing more for their athletes, like Jax….. Sorry, wasn’t supposed to say that… For example, the Bishop McCort team regularly trained at Penn State, while the Raney's trained at Illinois, and Marcus Blaze trained at Ohio State, with little to no benefit to the host programs. All of these teams have jumped through numerous hoops, investing significant time and money. While this situation may arise again, implementing stricter rules could at least provide some support to universities. As I said, You would be surprised to learn who proposed this idea.

The last line or two about RTCs is really interesting. I've been saying this group of young super talents have benefitted more from open RTC environments than anybody ever, and it won't happen again. That move seems to be starting now.
Brian Swaw@BrianSwaw

It’s Friday. Jacob Warner accepts an Iowa assistant coaching position, as I was sworn to secrecy by a trusted source. I mentioned it was a former Hawkeye who wouldn’t move the needle for the Iowa fan base. I like the hire. I know the family, and it’s been a whirlwind for them. Jacob accepts the job in Denver, gets engaged, and gets offered the Iowa assistant coaching job—all in the same month. Cue the “I’m coming home” song I had no information on Meyer yesterday, as my only Ivy ties are at Princeton. However, there were rumors flying about Shapiro at NCAA regarding the portal. When the portal opened and he didn’t enter, it signaled he and the coaching staff were seeing eye to eye. @Cornell_Kevins should read his post, as he is spot on. Yesterday was a slow day on the portal, except for Meyer entering. There are lots of visits happening and plans scheduled for this weekend, but no signings to report. A few tidbits: West Virginia has a few visits lined up with guys at 133/141 that would fit nicely in their lineup. I've heard their name a few times in the last few days. Missouri has more money to dip into the portal than most realize. However, they are looking for wrestlers to fit there strong culture. Go look at previous portal signings. I still believe hometown Fuguit is their main target. Add Meyer now to Knox, Provo, Garvin, Norman, Robinson, and Crookman. The Magnificent Seven need to sign within the next 3-5 days to open the floodgates within the portal. I believe most of the same teams are vying for their services—Nebraska, Michigan, Iowa, Ohio State, Iowa State. Watching how these chips fall will be interesting to see how other teams pivot and who else jumps in. Shapiro will not be the last surprise to enter the portal this year. Lastly, more news trickling out of the Big 10 meeting indicates that coaches are looking to enforce a rule: no high school kids in RTCs unless they live within 50 miles. The coaches approved it; now it will move up the chain. You would be surprised who suggested it, and surprisingly, all the big RTC teams agreed. They spend a ton of time and big dollars with little return. Should have more specific updates throughout the day.

@BrianSwaw @keepmoremoney IMO, this likely means higher-level recruits will start transferring high schools to be closer to the colleges they’ve committed to. For example, Christian Castillo (1st to come to my mind) moved from Arizona to Iowa for his senior year. That way he could be closer to Iowa state

Meyer is not a grad transfer—he’s a Scholar All-American who had just one year left to earn his Ivy diploma. This portal move has nothing to do with health. As recently as last week, Meyer said he wasn’t entering the portal—money didn’t matter, and he was one year away from graduating with high honors and potentially becoming a 4x All-American for the Big Red. All of this suggests the move is far less about any immediate financial incentive and much more about his relationship with the coaches….to the point where he would possibly rather use his final season elsewhere, even if it means leaving his Ivy diploma behind. If things were good, this would not even be a consideration.

@MrPatMineo Cool but imo it doesn’t matter where he goes. He’s way too injury prone. Until he changes somethings I don’t think it matters he’s just gonna keep hurting himself unfortunately.

🚨 TRANSFER PORTAL ALERT 🚨 Big news as Lehigh’s 133 lb All-American Ryan Crookham has officially entered the transfer portal as a grad transfer. Crookham placed 3rd at the NCAA Championships as a freshman, but missed the last two postseasons due to injury. With a medical redshirt, he will have 2 years of eligibility remaining.
