The Employment Rights Act is now law. This is the biggest upgrade to working people’s rights in a generation. You will be protected from fire and rehire. You won't be forced onto an exploitative zero hour contract. You will get sick pay from day one. You will have stronger family leave. And so much more. I couldn’t be prouder to lead the government that made this happen.

Some of the watershed measures this Bill delivers: ➡️ Banning exploitative zero hours contracts ➡️ Sick pay for all from day one ➡️ Expanding paternity, parental and bereavement leave ➡️ Strengthening protections for pregnant women, whistle-blowers and victims of sexual harassment ➡️ Making flexible working the default ➡️ Repealing Tory anti-union laws Unions and workers have long campaigned for these vital rights. By voting down the Employment Rights Bill,Tory Peers are thwarting the democratic process & disregarding the British public who supported Labour’s manifesto pledge to make work pay. The government can’t be held ransom by unelected Tory peers who don’t care about workers’ rights.

🚨BREAKING: Tory Lords block landmark Employment Rights Bill from passing. Enough is enough. Continuing to vote down this Bill is undemocratic. This Bill has been debated and scrutinised for months. Tory Peers are actively defying the will of the British public and their own supporters, who overwhelmingly support measures in this Bill. The fight goes on. These unelected Lords who are holding up this Bill must urgently move out the way. We will not rest until these rights are enacted and workers start to benefit.
